Torn between life and death

1951 Words
Trying to get somewhere in life isn't as easy as everyone said it was, but fighting against everyone who said you couldn't is harder but when you're fighting against the only person holding you back, yourself. Your fighting a losing battle. I am fighting a losing battle. But the question on everyone mind, do I want to win this battle? Believe it or not I was a happy, loved teenager once but you know not everything is black and white sometimes theres the middle between those two colours; grey and thats where I stand right now. I didn't think my life could turn a one eighty in the short spam off a hour, but boy was I wrong, life can f**k you over in a blink of a eye. only if we could see into the future we could prevent something like this from happening to me or anyone. Life is never fair and I'm about to learn the hard way. A small white five seated car have been tossed and turned down the road leaving the car on the roof crushed with no sign of movement inside, the car has been too damaged for anyone to survive, the body of the car crushed. Looking at the car you can see how damaged it has become with the engine being ripped out, it has been destroyed there isn't much left of the car, the body of the car is unrecognised with the damage unable to identify the car no longer, what type of car, what colour it started with before the paint was scrapped off by the road. Minutes pass and it feels like a lifetime to everyone in the car but to the man in the truck, it's not quite hitting him what just happened in that blink of a eye, did he hit a deer or a family car, shock running thought his veins. A bystander driving pass stops at the scene not believing their eyes as it looks like horrifying only something you see in movies or read in books. Running out of his car is a middle aged man who can't believe his eyes, he starts shouting out trying to get a response from anyone but there's nothing but the sound of car parts breaking and hitting the floor as they fall off the car. The silence between the car coming to a stop and parts falling off, a pin drop. While the mans begging for a response another car pulls up to help, a bystander calls for an ambulance for help but as the time ticks away right in front of them, all the bystanders can do is hope the ambulance and firefighters have been called out on time to save them. Hearing that the ambulance could be ten minutes the by standers start to get worried, they don't know if the family even survived a crash like that, the car doesn’t look like a car anymore, any hope anyone had of anyone surviving that crash is skimming away as seconds tick by. A by stander gets inpatient waiting, before they know it they have ran to the car and tried to get a little girl out the car as he can't just stand there anymore and wait for help but the man stops when he hears the fire truck incoming with speed, the sirens blasts out and get louder as they get closer, as the by standers watch on praying for a miracle, almost half of them know that it's near impossible to survive a crash like this, a car against a lorry. it's impossible. As the fire crew pull up, they get started straight away wasting no time, racing against the time trying to get everyone out the car, each member of the fire engine are not sure how long they have been upside down, they are praying for a miracle as they get closer to pulling the car open. One team race to get the car stable while the other team tries to use the claws to jam open the doors as it's not budging when they try to open it by the doors, The paramedic is checking the drivers pulse unable to stand still and watch the scenes unfold in front of him however he shakes his head to a fellow paramedic who also shakes her head checking the front passenger pulse, the miracle of anyone surviving is getting slimmer right now as they look at each other. A bystander watches on and sees the paramedic shaking there heads, he's shaken up from just watching that he takes his cap off, showing respect to the family and every other bystander stands silent. Right at this point Charlotte parents are announced dead at the scene and theres nothing left she can do but choose, life or death. As one paramedic checks the child pulse, they hear a faint pulse but only just. Life or Death... "She's got a pulse, it's faint" one paramedic shouts with a little hope in their voice, at the fire crew who are getting closer to opening the door with a paramedic next to them with the backboard on standby waiting to rush in once the door is open, theres no time to waste and each person knows this as they hurry to get to the child. As the fire crew open Charlotte door, the paramedic rush in to get Charlotte on a back board and a neck brace on. Once Charlotte is stable on the backboard, they check over for any external injuries before rushing the young female into the ambulance, as they check the female over once again checking each box needing to be sure, one is shaking her head, she knows that the female has been upside down for too long, they race to get her loaded into the ambulance and off to the closest hospital, hoping they made it time. Her chooses remain, life or death? "We have a sixteen year old female victim coming in from a car accident" I wake up to hear someone shouting on the radio as I slowly come to but i can barely keep my eyes open, my eye lids flutter as I'm fighting as hard as i can but my eye lids are fighting against me more and are winning. All I remember is a lorry speeding towards us in high speed and then nothing but flashing lights. Am I dead? Where are my parents? "We losing her, come on girl fight for us" paramedic yelling at me but I can barely make out the words before I close my eyes and drift into darkness, I'm losing and I know this could be it. A tear rolls down my cheek as my arms goes limb I can no longer hear or see anything round me, i want my parents. Where are my parents... Life or death? "No pulse, come on Charlotte" the paramedic shouts as she shouts over the heart monitor which show nothing but flatlines, as the paramedic take one look at the monitor she starts chest compressions feeling the panic run though the paramedic as she keeps looking over to the monitor knowing she had her a moment ago and losing a child hurts more then anything. "Sixteen year old female. Car crash victim, serious injuries to the head and chest. Flatlines and done two minutes CPR" the paramedic speaks to the doctor who was first one running out the hospital. As the paramedic watch the doctors whisk Charlotte away, one of them looks at the back of the hospital not believe a sixteen year old could be fighting for her life after such a crash that already took her parents away from her. "She's so young, had her whole life ahead of her" the paramedic says closing her back doors and making her way inside passing on all the information they receive, still in shock with everything as it only feels like seconds ago the accident happened. "Fight for us Charlotte" doctor whispers The ten minutes from Charlotte arriving to the hospital, the grandparents have heard the news and rushed into the hospital, they was the first to hear about the news and first to arrive but as they stand at the reception desk they are panicking needing to be with there grand daughter. They stand at the desk demanding answers and are declining to move till someone tells them something, each passing second they begin to get more worried about what has happened and their brain's are flooding with the worst case and the tears are running down their faces. "I'm looking for my granddaughter Charlotte Lockhart" grandad says slamming him hands on the desk, grandma stands next to him in tears, she doesn't want to believe that this has happen to such an innocent person, to her family. As the grandparents wait for the receptionist to click her fingers on the computer the rest of the family come rushing in with Charlotte uncles throwing their cars anywhere before running to the front desk, they are desperate for answers, they crowd the reception all with worried faces on waiting for the news. "Charlotte Lockhart here we are. She's still in surgery, you can wait in the waiting room and the doctors will be out to inform you when there done" the receptionist tells the family as she points to the waiting room. As the family follow each other to the waiting room shaking, another doctor comes out to inform them of a death in their family. "I'm sorry but we couldn't save Tristan or Annie Lockhart. They was killed on impact. I'm sorry for your loss" the doctor says bowing his head, once the doctor has walked away every family member has broken in tears unable to believe that Charlotte parents are no longer here with there daughter. Sitting there crying they can't do anything else apart from hope Charlotte pulls though not with the surgery but also with losing both her parents now all anyone can do it wait and hope. They know Charlotte will never everyone if she manages to pull thought and as everyone looks at each other they know the chances of Charlotte pulling though cant be in their favour. Minute by minute has passed and what has felt like hours has only been ten minutes, everyone has been waiting patiently but there's only so much waiting someone can do without pulling hair from there head. As they wait five hours has gone by slowly but there's still no sign of the doctor but as time goes by the family is thinking the worse they don't want to lose another member. As they start to get anxious grandad steps up to ask for any news but a doctor walks out the room and heads straight to them with no emotion on his face "Doctor" grandad says wiping his last few tears that have managed to fall down his cheek, he's hoping for good news rather then bad as he just lost his daughter, he's not about to lose his granddaughter as well "I'm very sorry, it was touch and go for a while but I have done everything that I could do, it's up to Charlotte now to fight. She's stable in a induced coma right now. I'm sorry we couldn't do anything else. Your granddaughter is a fighter, you all should be proud of her" the doctor says patting him on the back before walking off, grandad doesn't know whether to be happy or sad but no one says anything instead they all put there heads in their hands begging for a miracle right now. Choose, life or death?
