“Mark, did you get a chance to read those documents I gave you?” Mark leaned back against the marble countertop of his hotel room’s kitchenette, his mood unexpectedly light for a Sunday morning. Veronica had dropped off a stack of important documents—briefing reports, investment proposals, legal notes. All vital. Usually, he would’ve devoured them by now, annotated margins and flagged action points before sunrise. Veronica knew how much he valued preparedness, especially with several acquisitions on the horizon. But this morning was different. His thoughts were elsewhere. Specifically, on Jessica.
