The Great Spirit's Blessing

857 Words
As my father told me and his father told him, etc. our tribe was always tied to the wolf. They were and will always be our brothers. They lived with us in our village and the pack would even protect the women and children when the men of the tribe along with the alpha male and female would hunt to feed the village. On one hunting trip though something changed. After a bountiful catch the chief and the alpha male were walking in further in the forrest to find more wood for the fire. As the chief was gathering the wood a giant bear came charging towards the alpha. The chief grabbed his spear and ran to protect his dear friend. As the great battle continued on the bear hit the chief with his paw knocking him down. As the bear was about to land the blow to kill him, the alpha jumped in the way biting down on the paw of the bear. The chief took the opportunity and speared the bear as it was going down with the bear's good paw it pierced the alphas side. The chief grabbed his friend and ran to the camp. Shouting to the men to run and get his wife and the alpha female. The chief was trying to stop the bleeding but he was failing. The alpha was taking shallow breathes and couldn't keep his eyes open. The chief held on to him in his arms crying as his wife and the alpha female approached them. The alpha female licked the snout of her mate but he could not open his eyes. He was dying. The chief did not want to lose his friend, they had been friends since they were child and cub, when their fathers were over the village. He cried and begged God (who they called The Great Spirit) to spare him. He cried for the great spirit to help him. The chiefs wife tried to comfort her husband but he only cried louder. The alpha female howled to the sky, along with the chief their two cries became one. When out of nowhere a bright blue light came down from the sky and circled the four of them. A messenger of God appeared in front them, the chief wasted no time in pleading for the life of the alpha. The messenger spoke saying to the chief that God seen the whole battle and chooses to save the alpha.  "For there is no greater love than one who will lay down his life for his friends. You both are brothers in bond and you will not be seperated. Therefore you will become one with eachother." The messenger said. As he said this the alpha female stood up and licked the hand of the messenger. The wife of the chief walked next to the alpha female, putting her arms around holding her close. The messenger could tell they were sisters in bond. So he gave them the same blessing of God to be one with eachother. The messenger raised his hands toward the heavens and the light circling around them grew bigger and brighter. As the light grew brighter the Chief and the alpha male's souls were combining into one, as was the chiefs wife and the alpha female. The light grew as bright as the sun and enveloped the four of them. As the brightness died down there now was two giant wolves in front of the messenger. After a few moments the wolves changed into the chief and his wife. "Let what God has done be a blessing to your lives and the lives of your children, their children and from generations upon generations." said the messenger. Some time after that the wife of the chief became pregnant and had twins a boy and a girl. The children grew and were alike in everyway except in their eyes. The boys eyes were dark blue and forrest green, while the girls eyes were dark blue and violet. On the day of the twins 18th birthday the tribe gave a great feast in celebration of the joyous day. As the feast was commencing the sun was starting to set as it did the twins eyes shined bright. They started to shake and their bones started popping out of place. As they cried out in pain their screams turned into howls. As the chief and his wife were watching there children not knowing what was wrong, the twins changed in to wolves. And the wolves that were in the village bowed their heads and howled in great respect. And as quickly as they changed they changed back into their human forms. So their parents realized the spirit of their wolves passed onto their children. Knowing that they decided it was best to teach and train their children in the ways of the wolves. Telling them about the Great Sprirt's blessing and how they must pass on the story unto their future children. Since then, almost every child born from the chief and his wifes line on their 18th birthday have grown into their wolf. And it has been that way since the first blessing.
