Blair’s POV
“We are losing her,” I was in a world of pain, but all I could think about was my child. Was it going to be okay? Slone and I had decided to wait until the birth to find out the gender, so we never asked. We were just told it would be a healthy child, and that was enough for us.
I groaned as I was rushed into the hospital on a stretcher, moaning and grunting in pain. My hands never left my stomach, and I could still feel that I was bleeding. Panic and worry for my child held me by the throat, and I grabbed one of the nurses by her arm, making her stop, which slowed down the rest of them.
Everyone was staring now, but I ignored them and squeezed her hand softly. “Please,” I choked, my voice hoarse. “…save my child.”
“What do you think you are doing, Lydia? Are you crazy?” one of the others yelled, but I didn’t let go of her. She had to make that promise.
Lydia bit her lip and stared at me, her eyes fierce. “I promise you.”
I released her, and they wheeled me into a ward where a team was already waiting. I searched frantically for Lydia, but I couldn’t find her.
“Her vitals?”
As one of them stated my vitals, I grabbed one of the doctors by her coat and yelled. “Get me Lydia, please.”
The doctor, a tall woman with glasses, slouched and gasped at me, her eyes confused.
“Get me Lydia, or I won’t push,” I warned, and her eyes narrowed, but I didn’t let go of her.
“Get Nurse Lydia here immediately,” she yelled and slowly tried to pry my hands off her, but I was already so weak I couldn’t keep my eyes open anymore. Before my eyes closed finally, I noticed Lydia run into the room, and then I smiled, welcoming the darkness.
“We’re losing her!”

“Congratulations, Blair, you have twins. Two healthy boys.”
My eyes were filled with tears as I watched Lydia walk into my room with two little bundles in her arms.
I struggled to sit up, disbelief in my eyes. Twins? “Twins?” I whispered as she got closer.
She nodded and stretched one of them to me. I hesitated for a moment before taking the child from her arms. “They are fine, Blair,”
I nodded, and tears welled up in my eyes. Brushing the tears away, a smile took over my face as I held him in my arms. “He’s so beautiful.”
She stared down at the child she was holding and looked up at me, her eyes gentle. “Have you decided what you are going to call them?”
I thought about it for a moment, then grinned knowingly. I had planned for this moment. “He will be called Kaleb, and his brother,” I paused, looking down at the baby in my arms. “He will be called Nikolai.”
Her eyes lightened up, and she let out a little laugh. “It’s perfect, Kaleb and Nikolai. They’d be a force to be reckoned with in the future, you’ll see.”
I nodded and then frowned as she held the other child closer to my face for me to look at him. I gasped as I looked at him properly. He looked so much like Slone. I sobbed even harder as I looked from one baby to the other. With everything that had happened and me being a suspect in the murder of his father, Slone could try to get back at me by separating me from both children.
I shook my head, panicking at the thought of losing my boys. Chills ran down my spine, and immediately my eyes were filled with tears again.
Lydia, who had been staring down at my son, suddenly looked up at me and frowned when she saw my sullen expression. “What’s wrong?” she asked, and I turned to look at her, an idea looming in my mind.
“I need you to hide one of my babies and tell the hospital that he died in the middle of the night.”
Her eyes fell wide, and I sighed, squeezing her hand a bit too hard, my eyes boring into hers. “Please, you have to do this for me, I have no choice.”
“It’s against my profession. What you’re asking of me is a crime!” she whispered, but her voice was slightly raised.
I shook my head and looked down at the little boy in my arms. “If you don’t do what I am asking, then he will be as good as dead.”
She looked hesitant for a while, and my heart clenched. “If the Alpha ever found out about this, then I will be as good as dead.”
I sobbed silently for a while, my tears dropping on Nikolai’s face.
Lydia silently watched me for a while, and then she said after a few moments. “When I took this job, I made a vow to save and protect lives, and since you’re only asking me to do my job, then I will.”
Her words made me emotional again, and I could feel tears threatening to fall, but I held them back, choosing to stay calm as I eyed Kaleb, who was now sucking on his thumb. I blinked back tears. “Keep him safe.”
She nodded and patted my arm gently, smiling at me. “I will do as you have asked and protect Kaleb with my life.”
I bent down and kissed the child’s forehead before she turned and walked out of the room, taking Kaleb with her. I hugged Nikolai closer to my chest and sobbed. I could no longer stop the tears, so I gave into them and let them fall in torrents. Nikolai reached his tiny hand to touch my face, and my breath caught.
With a small smile, I kissed his cheeks and wiped my face clean, then I placed him in the little bed beside me and watched him calmly, my mind racing. If Slone showed up, I would be powerless against him, but at least I wouldn’t lose both of my sons to him, rather just one.
I inhaled deeply, staring tearfully at Nikolai. A feeling of guilt washed over me, and I exhaled harshly. “I’m so sorry,” I whispered as the fresh tears rolled down my cheeks. “I will come back for you if anything were to happen to you, my love, this I promise you.”
I hope I don’t regret this later on.
