The first thing I did after stepping out of my house was try to reach my uncle but he wasn't responding to any of my calls and messages. I get that he's taking a break but he should at least check up on his business even if it's once a week. But no, it looked like he left everything completely under my care because I haven't heard from him since I escorted him to the airport. I thought about calling his friends and asking them about him later. I had no other alternative. I finally gave up after a while and headed toward my favorite café to get coffee. It was part of my morning routine before going to work. I just needed something strong to keep me functional throughout the day. It was a bit of a struggle as I tried to get my credit card out of my handbag. I unintentionally collided with someone standing behind me. I immediately turned around to apologize but I swallowed my words when it turned out to be Kaz. The tough gigolo from yesterday. Despite my displeasure, I hid the frown that was making its way up my lips. I have to be mature about this. Our business only ends at the nightclub, not here in this lovely café. "Sorry," I stated finally getting a hold of my card. "Oh, it's nothing. At least I got a chance to feel your behind." He whispered. I rolled my eyes as he collected his order from the waitress. "Good morning, ma'am. The usual?" The kind waitress asked and I nodded showing off a bright smile. She didn't waste time keeping the plastic cup with the contents I wanted in front of me. "Put that on my tab. I'll pay for it." Kaz said holding out his wallet but I was fast enough to pass my card to her. "No, thank you." I declined Kaz's offer and he simply smirked. "I'm just trying to be nice. You don't have to bring the work drama right here." "I'm not bringing any drama here. Even if a stranger offered to buy me coffee, I'll bluntly refuse." I corrected as I collected my card back from the waitress and started leaving. Annoyingly, I felt him following me out of the cafe with his order wrapped in a brown paper bag. "What do you want, Kaz?" I asked after I stopped walking. We were now standing outside the cafe and my car was parked right across the street. "Nothing, I was heading to my new car. It's a little present from the rich widow. What do you think? Should I consider her after she has given me this?" He questioned pointing his finger. I wished I could wipe the smug off his face. I traced the direction of his supposedly new car and I was stunned to see a shiny black corolla a few steps from us. Okay, what has this boy got on that widow? "I don't know. That's up to you. You're the one doing the fucking." My speech was unhinged and I wanted to sound convincing enough. "What exactly happened between you two?" "Why don't you go and ask the widow?" "I wasn't kidding when I said I'd fire you if you keep acting like this. I'm your boss now in case you don't know." "You're not my boss, Ruby. Your uncle is and I answer to him." "I don't care. As long as he's not around, you'll listen to me or kiss the nightclub goodbye." I wasn't expecting him to be fazed by my statement because he looked deadly serious. But I was craving, at least, for some respect from him. I might not get it, so why the hell should that even bother me? I decided to drop the conversation once and for all. And again, I missed an opportunity to ask him how he knew my name. Screw the curiosity, maybe my uncle mentioned me to him. Although my uncle likes hanging around with his fellow sixty years old friends, I still think he may be close to Kaz. "As for your new car; good for you," I muttered leaving him to cross to the other side of the road. He smiled at me, so carefree before going into his ride. I took a fast drive to the nightclub before I drank my coffee. I didn't see Kaz again until night when the club was buzzing with customers. I don't know why this usually happens — now that I was getting to know Kaz, it seemed like everyone was now talking about him. This night, I got to realize how much he was starting to get noticed by women and they even put bets on who would go five rounds with him in a single night. My assistant must have felt how I always get intrigued when folks start mentioning him so she took it upon herself to tell me all she knows about him. She doesn't hide the fact that she's a gossip. "He's only been here for three months but he's gotten lots of admirers. Most of his regular clients say he's a fun guy and he makes simple things exciting. He's currently twenty years old and most of his friends are gangsters. He's shady..." My ears felt full in no time. What made me pause was that he was 20 years old. He's the youngest s*x worker. I used to think my uncle made 25 years and above the requirement to work here. When my assistant finally stopped talking, I went upstairs to gather my things since it was past midnight and the club would be empty of customers soon. There was this silence in the atmosphere because people were no longer on the road but in their houses, safe and warm. When I was done, I went to the bathroom to wash my hands and face before heading to the stage to speak to the workers. It was a brief meeting before we all dispersed. I was outside later, I heard the unsettling and rustling in the dark corner of the building. I wondered if it was stray animals messing with the dumpster but I decided to check it out and make sure no junkie was suffering an overdose. With the help of my phone flashlight, I went toward the dark corner. There were broken bottles and glasses scattered around the bare ground. Cigarette sticks were littered around too and I noticed the smokes were still visible and hot meaning someone was here not long ago. I kept investigating further because the sound hasn't died down. It was after a few minutes that I realized someone was on the floor groaning in pain. To my horror, it was one of our workers. "Kaz!" I yelled shocked to find him kicking his legs with his hands clutching onto his bloody shirt. There were bruises all over his face, his ear bloody and his lips trembling. What.the.hell!
