The friends looked horrified by this as there could only be one reason why palace guards were at Carim's house. They had not expected the king to find out that quickly. Perhaps, they had discovered them as the invaders and were here to punish them.
Zuli, on the other hand, looked scared and let out a shriek, taking refuge at the back of her brother, while the men tried to brace themselves and act courageous, lest they sold themselves away.
The guards stopped in front of them and and a hefty looking man with a stern expression on his face stepped forward.
He gave a quick bow.
"I'm Oputu, the chief commander of the army and I have been sent by the king to search this house. The criminal who ought to be thrown into the ice pit today had escaped."
