I stood there for a while, locked in a silent standoff as Clinton scrutinized me with an intensity that made me squirm.
Finally, he broke the silence, his voice laced with a hint of amusement.
"Class A and I'm sure you're thinking you've resumed late, which of course, you have." He nodded at me, his eyes sparking with a knowing glint.
"How late?" I raised my eyebrows, my curiosity piqued, and my hopes rising that I'd missed a significant chunk of time.
"A week," Clinton replied, with a quirky raise of his eyebrows. "But don't worry, nothing earth-shattering happened. Just the usual drudgery."
"That's relieving to know," I said, forcing a smile, trying to hide my embarrassment.
But Clinton just chuckled and said, "Class A is actually the other way around, and not here." he beamed with amusement, clearly enjoying my mistake.
"Gosh, my bad! lead the way then," I replied, gesturing for him to show me the direction.
As we walked together, I couldn't help but think, Is this handsome guy not looking a bit weird, or is it just my imagination? but I pushed the thought aside, and focused on finding a familiar face In the crowd. That's when I spotted Alexa, chatting with someone I didn't recognize.
She wore baggy jeans and a matching top, paired with sleek sneakers. Her dark hair, and almond shaped eyes stood out, and her thin, pinkish lips curled into a friendly smile.
I turned to Clinton and said, "I think I'll grab a vacant seat over there. I see a friend of mine. Thanks for your help, by the way."
He nodded and pointed to a group of students saying, "I'll catch up with my friends over there. Catch you later, pretty J," he winked before leaving, and I couldn't help but think, pretty J, not bad at all.
With a smile, I made my way over to Alexa and covered her eyes with my hands, playfully interrupting her conversation.
Alexa felt my hands covering her eyes and screamed, "Oh my god, tell me it's not who I think it is!" she exclaimed excitedly, recognizing the texture of my hands.
I tried to disguise my voice, replying in a hoarse voice, "Of course not, how can that be possible?" but Alexa wasn't fooled.
"Great voice you've got there, don't try to fool me Janet! I know it's you," she chuckled, and I couldn't help but laugh too.
"Alright, alright, I can't really trick you, can I?" revealing my true voice.
I released my hands from Alexa's eyes, and she turned around, giving me a huge hug. Good heavens, that was a bit tight, I thought, relieved when we finally released each other.
"Janet, good God, I've missed you so much!" Alexa exclaimed. Her expression turned curious. "Why did you resume late," she asked, playfully hitting my head.
"Ouch that hurt!" I replied, rubbing my head, and giving her a mock sad look.
"I'm sorry, now answer," Alexa said, her voice firm, while stomping her feet on the cold floor. I was taken aback by her sudden seriousness. I thought to myself, This is going to be damn wild, I hesitated, wondering what I'd missed during my absence, did anything interesting happen in school while I wasn't here? I thought, hoping for a clue.
"No reason at all," I finally replied, shrugging my shoulders. Alexa expression turned playful, and we both burst into laugher, chatting and joking like no time had passed between us. But our carefree moment was interrupted by a sudden. "Cough, cough," from behind us.
We turned our heads quickly, exclaiming an "oh" sound in unison.
"Oh Theo, I'm so sorry," Alexa said, her hands joined together in apology. "This is Janet, my best friend, and this is Theo, a new friend of mine."
We exchange pleasantries and I couldn't help but notice the hint of awkwardness in Theo's smile.
"I'll catch you later, take care of yourself, Alexa," Theo said, giving her a warm hug before leaving.
We sat down, and I spoke up first, my hand covering my mouth in a thoughtful gesture. "Don't you think he's kind of interested in you?"
Alexa raised an eyebrow, her expression nonchalant. "Who? You mean Theo? Nah, and even if it's true, I'm not interested." She shrugged, her gaze drifting away.
I gave her a confused look. "Why? he's good looking, and he seems nice."
Alexa chuckled, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "You can go for him then if you want."
I thought to myself, who told her I'm interested in him? I'm not, I repeat, I'm not interested in him!"
But Alexa continued, her voice barely above a whisper. "You think I don't know, I do. I'm actually interested in that guy over there." she smiled sheepishly, curiosity getting the better of me.
I followed her gaze and my eyes landed on Clinton, who was engrossed in his notes. "Clinton," we both said in unison, our voices barely audible.
"Good riddance, you know his name already?" Alexa asked, her eyes wide in suprise.
"Yes I do. We bumped into each other, and spoke a little, just a bit," I replied, wondering why she was so taken aback.
Alexa's expression turned annoyingly condescending. "Well, lucky you then, because he doesn't really relate with females except for her," She pointed to a stunning young lady with long, wavy and lustrous hair tied into a ponytail.
Her large, cat like eyes and full lips with a pale lipgloss made her look like a model. She wore a floral gown and elegant yellow sandals, adorned with bracelets on each hand, exuding an air of luxury. As soon as she spotted Clinton, she hurried over to him, excitement radiating from her very being.
"Hey Clinton!" Mirabel exclaimed, warmly hugging him.
"Hi Mirabel! How are you doing?" Clinton returned the hug, his smile hinting a close friendship. Mirabel's hand lingered on his cheeks and she fluffed his hair, earning a playful. "C'mon stop doing that!" from Clinton.
Her laughter was music to the ears, and she replied, "I will, okay? see you after class!" with a quick peck on his cheek, she bid him farewell, leaving Clinton looking slightly flustered but endearing.
Alexa's eyes met mine, her expression dejected. "Ah s**t, what's the meaning of what they just did? don't they realize we're in a classroom full of people? f**k!! Guess he'd never be mine, let alone talk to me. What do you think, Janet? Am I been delusional?" She asked, her voice laced with disappointment and frustration.
I thought to myself, Why is she asking me this?
''Obviously I don't care or give a f**k about it,'' I replied, pulling out some books in my bag without noticing her reaction.
Alexa sighed heavily and slumped back in her seat. "Pfft.. wasn't expecting more from you though."
A few minutes later, the class erupted into chaos, with people laughing and chattering. But suddenly, everyone fell silent. Why? I wondered. That's when I saw him, a stunning handsome man with an aura of confidence and power. He walked in, and all eyes were drawn to him like magnets.
At first, he exuded a cold, intimidating aura, but as our eyes met, he flashed me a charming, devilish smirk that made my heart race.
He strode into the classroom, his shiny blonde hair and crystal blue eyes captivating everyone's attention. His thin, pinkish lips and clean moustache added to his allure, and his handsome long face was accentuated by a beautiful set of teeth.
His body structure was lean and athletic, and his 6 foot frame commanded presence. A small dimple in his chin and a stray strand of hair falling on the side of his face only added to his charm.
As he introduced himself with confidence and pride.
"Hi everyone, I'm Sebastian, Your new med lab teacher."
I couldn't help but think, damn, I love guys like this. But I quickly reminded myself, Janet Jackson keep your heart cold. However, his voice and features were undeniably striking.
Meanwhile, my best friend Alexa was completely smitten, almost falling off her chair. I caught her just in time.
"Are you okay?" I asked concerned.
"Of..of..of course..course," she stammered, still starry eyed.
Just then, a voice in Sebastian's head spoke up.
"Your mate Sebastian, You have finally had a second chance after Lucy's death. Seems the moon goddess loves you very much," Sebastian's wolf spirit sin had linked minds with him, and he looked irritated.
"She's human?" he asked, his tone gruff.
"No, she's not, she's a werecoyote and our Luna but she doesn't have a clue yet. Aren't you smitten by her appearance? her honeyed eyes looking so captivating, I am!" Sin replied excitedly, his mind link with Sebastian still opened.
Sebastian raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "I see, You took a liking to her before me, Very interesting, I presume." He closed the mind link, his gaze scanning the room.
"I guess you all grabbed my name, or do you want me to repeat it again?" Seb asked, his voice commanding attention.
Most students chorused "No," and I thought, I'm a little sure they didn't grab his name.
"Perfect. We'll head straight to the lab to commence your first practical for this semester, as instructed by your vice principal. I guess I'm understood, right? Sebastian asked, his confidence and authority evident.
The student chorused "yes," except for a few.
One of the female student spoke up. "Why wouldn't we understand? You're strikingly handsome. Just taking a glance at your face is worth understanding." Most of the girls agreed, and I shook my head, thinking that was literally unnecessary.
"Janet, oh my god, just a while ago, I was drooling over Clinton, and then God blessed me with this magnificent looking guy. I swear I'm going to fail all my exams if I keep seeing this dignified face. He's so f*****g hot!" Alexa exclaimed, her excitement annoying me.
"Can you just stop talking? it's annoying," I replied, irritated. I thought her excitement wouldn't get the best of her, but it seemed she wasn't different.
"C'mon, I'm definitely saying the truth," Alexa retorted, leading to a tiny argument that wasn't necessary.
Just then Clinton spotted us and decided to walk over. "Hey janet," he said.
I turned to him annoyingly, thinking it wasn't the right time for anyone to interfere."What!"
Clinton apologized, "Sorry it seems you are not in a good mood. Wrong time, I think."
He was about to leave, but stopped when he heard me apologize. "I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were the one."
Clinton shrugged his shoulders. "It's fine, I just wanted us to head to the lab together. You don't mind, right?
Alexa interrupted, "Of course you can. Besides, we are all heading the same way, aren't we, Janet?" She hit me playfully, making sure Clinton didn't notice her gesture.
Alexa looked deeply into my eyes and it felt we were communicating without words. "What are you doing, Janet? You know this handsome jerk is my crush and you dare want to thrust him away." Alexa gave me a hard glare, her eyes blazing with intensity.
"Really, Alexa? are we actually going to communicate without words?" I asked impatiently, rolling my eyes.
"We did this s**t when we were in highschool. Holy Mary, of course, now agree so we can get this over with. We both know you are a hard nut to crack, but please this is Clinton for goodness sake!" Alexa begged, her voice laced with desperation.
"Who the f**k is Clinton that you hold so highly of?" I snapped, my annoyance growing. Is she going to fall off the chair for him as well, I thought, recalling how I had drooled over him when we first met.
"Oh babe, he's standing right next to you. Now agree to tag along, cause I don't think he would want to walk alone with me if you don't agree to come with us," Alexa pleaded, her eyes locking onto mine.
Just then, Clinton intervened, his voice firm but amused. "Girls, there are only few of us left here. Are we going or not?he asked, his gaze flicking between us. I made a muffled sound before we strode off together, leaving Sebastian to watch from afar, his expression displeased with every action we took.
"It seems you are a little pained," Seb's wolf Sin said, feeling excited.
"Pained my ass, I'm not pained," Sebastian replied, trying to his hide his emotions.
"Then you are angered. Have you forgotten I'm your wolf Sebastian, you dumbass, and I can feel your emotions? If you are pained, I'm more pained as you," Sin spoke, his tone firm.
"Feel whatever you want to feel, cause I don't care," Sebastian replied, ignoring him. Sin growled in response, then kept quiet.
As we approached the lab, I remembered i forgot my diary.
"Ah s**t, You guys go ahead, I forget something very important, and I need to head back to the class," I said, about to leave.
"Should I come with you?" Clinton asked, concerned and a little worried. Why is he worried? I'm still going to come back to the lab, I thought.
"There's no need going along with her, obviously she'll be back. Now hurry up, Janet, we are waiting for you," Alexa replied, suprised by his question. I smiled and dashed away.
"I'm Alexa," she said immediately after I was out of sight.
"Cool," Clinton answered with just one word, uninterested, and left her to meet his friends in the lab. Alexa traced him with her eyes, her gaze lingering.
"That was rude Clinton, why is it so hard for you to engage in a lengthy conversation with me? I'm prettier than that stupid b***h, who follows you around," She muttered under her breath, folding her hands into fists. She went inside the lab to wait for me, her eyes fixed on Clinton, her anger simmering.
