Not The Girl He cared about
Elara Pov
The sunlight hit my eyes. I squeezed my face and turned to the other side before slowly opening them.
My eyes widened when I realized the room wasn’t mine. I sat up quickly and looked around.
That was when I saw Adrian, adjusting his tie in front of the mirror.
The memories of last night rushed back in a wave.
“Oh my God…” I grabbed the bed sheet and covered myself immediately. I was completely naked.
Adrian picked up his suit jacket and turned to me.
“If you come late to work, I’ll make sure you’re penalized.”
With that, he walked out, leaving me alone in his room.
I let out a shaky breath once he left. I jumped out of the bed, gathered my clothes, and rushed out of his house.
By the time I stepped out of my bathroom at home, it was already past 9 a.m.
“s**t…” I hadn’t realized how long I spent in there, but I needed to scrub myself clean because I felt filthy. I always thought I would keep myself till marriage… but sigh… life isn’t always fair.
The thought of Adrian being so soft with me last night made my cheeks warm.
Maybe he wasn’t that ruthless… or maybe that softness was just his personality in bed.
I wished I could take the day off because my entire body still aches from last night, but he didn’t even spare me a glance earlier. He made it clear I’d be queried if I was late. I quickly packed my bag and rushed to work.
Jessica was the first person I ran into.
“Hey, thief,” she whispered, looking around like she didn’t want anyone to hear her.
“I heard Adrian dropped the case, but this isn’t over. I have my eyes on you.” She smirked and walked away.
I was glad he dropped the case, but that didn’t clear my name. People would pretend it was fine, but deep down, I knew they’d judge me.
I had to clear my name myself.
I headed straight to Adrian’s office.
I knocked softly, but there was no response. I knocked again, this time firmer. Still nothing.
I opened the door and peeked in. It was empty. Oh.. “I’ll just wait,” I sighed and stepped inside.
A few minutes later, the door swung open and Jessica walked in with Adrian.
His eyes darkened when he saw me.
“What are you doing here?” he growled.
“You might want to check if anything is missing,” Jessica said mockingly.
“Shut your dirty mouth,” I snapped. “Don’t accuse me for no reason. Mr. Clark dropped the case because I was found innocent, you dummy.”
“Dummy? Did you just call me a dummy?” She stepped closer to hit me, but I stopped her.
“Touch me and I’ll deal with you,” I warned.
“How dare you speak to me like that?” she fired.
“The last time I checked, you’re not my superior. Or do I need to remind your dummy brain we’re colleagues?” I fired back at her.
“Enough,” Adrian snapped before she could reply to me. “Both of you, out. Now.”
“I’m sorry, Mr. Clark,” I said quickly. “I had something urgent to discuss with you.”
“Two minutes,” he said coldly. “Your time starts now.”
I glanced at Jessica, silently telling him she was still in the room.
He gestured for her to leave.
Once she was gone, I took a breath.
“I want you to investigate the case again. I want my name cleared.”
He didn’t even look up. “Is that why you came here?” His tone carried disappointment I didn’t understand.
“Yes,” I said softly. “I want my name cleared.”
“If you’re done, use the door,” he replied, fixing his eyes on his laptop.
“What? Mr. Clark…”
He just gave me a warning look. I shut my mouth and walked out.
I quickly forced back the tears that wanted to drop. For a moment, I had forgotten who he really was — Adrian Clark, the soulless CEO.
I was just another woman he used and would never care about.
I thought he liked me because he was gentle last night. I honestly thought he was but I was wrong.
Three weeks later, everything at work is fully settled. Everyone seems to have moved on, I wanted to…
But then my period didn’t come.
