"You must be mad."
"What did you say?" Dante's smirk was completely wiped off his lips.
"You must be insane," I repeated, clearly.
"Do you know who you speak to..."
"You must be out of your mind," I added. "What? You think I don't know you're the Dante Morelli of the Morelli family. The most dangerous family in the country." Dante raised a brow in surprise at my words. "And so what? So fuvkng what if you are? God...how sick can you be?" I ran a hand through my hair. "You killed a man in front of me, kidnapped me, and now you're asking me to be your wife, tell me what's next..."
"I'm not asking, I'm stating the fact. You will be my wife." Dante cut me off with his hard words.
"I swear to God, you have lost it. You have lost every sense of sensibility in your head. No! No! Never! I will never be your wife." My chest heaved as, with each of my words, came the strength that followed.
And despite all the strength I portrayed, Dante only chuckled as I watched him undo the buttons on his sleeves, and he began folding them. That act alone from him made my heart begin racing.
"You see Elena..." Dante smirked all through, his fingers undoing the second button. "You don't know me at all." Dante's gaze now met with mine. "You've only heard from outsiders about what I can do. Oh, and did I mention how much I love feisty women?" He added that all I could see was a monstrous man in front of me.
"With or without..." Dante spoke each word with a stride closer to me. "Your consent, I will get my wish." He stood inches away from my face, with his height towering and dominating mine. "I will not touch a single hair on your head, but I promise you, Elena, you will accept my offer, because you will have no choice." His threats were so intense that I shook where I stood.
"Dante, please let me go." I now pleaded, as it seemed that facing Dante head-on was not working.
"Oh, where's Miss Feisty?" Dante chuckled, and I could feel his breath on my face. His eyes locked with mine, his stare bore into my soul, and made me weak, so that I almost lost my balance, until I felt a strange, strong, cold hand wrap around my waist. "Easy..." Dante's words came low and husky, his eyes never leaving mine, but his one hand gripped me tighter. "I've not done anything to you yet, Elena." A hard gulp went down my throat, all while I remained silent, feeling some way I couldn't explain.
Dante's hand on my waist drifted lower as it now rested on my back, and my scrub shirt must have risen, for I felt his cold hands directly on my skin. I inhaled in a deep gasp, as my body shot through fire with the contact.
No. No. This was wrong.
As though Dante read my mind, his hand left my body in an instant, leaving me to stand by myself, and he took a step back.
"Don't make this harder than it should be for you, Elena." His voice came, all while I tried to recover from what had just happened.
"Make it make sense to me. Get married to a man I do not know and despise." I said to him.
"Don't you think despise is such a strong word? I say your body reactions say different." Dante's gaze hung dangerously on mine, and I went silent immediately. "What I am proposing to you is simple." His tone became more coordinated. "It's a contract marriage," Dante said.
"A contract marriage?" I asked.
"All I want is a figurehead as my wife. Nothing more, nothing less. No intimacy, no s****l encounter, you could fall in love with whoever you want to; you don't need to be loyal to me in that aspect. All I want from you is loyalty and presence when I need you. And someone to be able to care for my people and tend to their wounds." Dante told me.
"You want me to be your wife for show?" I asked him.
"And on paper too," Dante added, and I let out a scoff.
"This even makes it more unbelievable. What kind of marriage is that where all those are listed?" I had to ask him.
"Would you prefer I add the s****l contact between us. If you'd want that, we can work on it." Dante spoke so casually, as though he was telling a patient to just plaster an injury.
"Hell no." My tone rejecting.
"This is for your own convenience, Elena, because I would never touch a hair on your head. I don't touch women. Never would I do such." Dante told me.
"No, Dante. No. I reject this. I reject your contract." I said to his face. "I will never marry you." I shook my head.
"I'm giving you a life here. A chance to change your life. A chance to leave your struggling life and be free. I'm offering you the chance to have everything at your disposal. Money, clothes, trips, and power all at your service. A chance to leave your poor life and abusive stepfather behind." Dante's words were clear.
"No, Dante, what you're offering me isn't freedom but a prison. A chance where I do not get to live my life as I please. And please, what happens to my patients? Those that depend on me." I asked him.
"They will depend on someone else if you're not there. And you have my men who would be your new patients." Dante said with a smirk. This man was insane. I couldn't believe I was actually having a conversation like this with him.
"There's something wrong with you. There's really something wrong with you, and I don't want to be a part of it." I gripped my head.
"Are you turning down my offer, Elena?" Dante's face became stern. "I will take that as a rejection then." Dante completed my words before I could even speak them. "Very well." Dante nodded his head and turned his back on me to leave.
"Dante," I called him weakly. He stopped in his tracks but didn't turn to look at me. "Please, just let me go. I'm begging you." I pleaded with every ounce of remaining strength in me. Still, he didn't turn to face me.
"With or without your consent, Elena, I promise, you will be my wife." His voice was strong-willed with certainty that the room instantly became cold for me, and with that, he walked out of the room and locked the door shut.
"Dante!"
