Priscilla POV :
We were sitting in the campus café. I have just narrated yesterday's incident to them. I couldn't wait to tell them this time around. I was expecting the tease and banters to start coming in now and they surely didn't dissapoint.
"So when will you return his garment?" Janet asked with a slight mockery
"Or you plan to hoard it forever "
"I have no idea yet, I don't want to walk up to him with it in the midst of everyone. It would be insanely wierd" I replied
"Coupled with some wild misconceptions" she added
"But it was quite a beautiful gesture nonetheless" Phil said
"Do you think it means something" I asked
"You don't offer your piece of clothing to someone, you don't want anything to do with" Phil replied
That was re assuring enough.
"So that was why you refused to reply my messages yesterday" Phil said
"Because you were on a nuptial walk with Peter"
"I am yet to check the message till now" I replied
"Yeah I figured"
"Do that now"
"You simply can't just tell me?"
"Check the message"
I brought out my phone to check his message, I found it quite easily. I shrieked in delight.
"You asked him out for a drink?"
"Yeah"
"I just walked up to him like you and asked 'Do you want to go out and get a drink with me when you are free' and he replied 'I guess so'. We went for the drinks after the gyming session" he said
"We talked about random things and got to know each other better, It was really cool you know"
He was grinning from ear to ear
"You know he went out with you as a friend right, without any prospect of anything romantic" Janet said
"Must you always be a killjoy" he said with anger in his eyes
"I prefer being blunt and not wallow in delusion, you should probably do the same. Tell him and just get it over with"
He was mute for a moment stare into space with a blank expression before rising up to leave. I wanted to stop him but decided against it. He is probably leaving to avoid saying things he might regret later.
"Come on Janet, that was quite harsh"
"Well someone had to said it and it doesn't look like that someone was going to be you" she replied
"Besides I was protecting him from going in too deep with his hope sky high without knowing his stance and getting hit with rejection. It would really break him, I would hate to see him that way. If that makes me the bad guy, then I will gladly accept the responsibility"
I knew she wasn't just talking about Phil, she was referring to me too.
"You know this applies to you too" she said
"Yeah, I know"
"I just don't want either of you to get hurt" she said
"Walking you home twice doesn't mean anything"
"I wish it does but it doesn't"
"It might be a coincidence or he actually enjoys your company"
"It's fine to hope but don't just dive in with all your heart"
"I hope you understand me"
"Yeah" I replied silently
It hurts a bit but it was quite true, she was taking rationally . It was true I was getting hyperactive about it. I understand she's trying to protect me like she always does.
She was surfing through the net while I ate silently. I watched her face twisted in horror.
"Oh' my Goodness" she said covering her mouth
"What is wrong"
"This is horrible"
"What?"
"An old store keeper was brutalize yesterday night in her shop"
"That is indeed horrible"
"Is she alive"
"She is still in the hospital it seems"
"Her condition is still critical they said"
"This is really disturbing to hear"
"Who could have done such a thing horrible?" I asked rhetorically
"Priscilla"
"What" I asked
"It was the shopkeeper of InsideOut"
"It's literally just a few blocks from your house
I kept quiet for a moment trying to process it.
"Any words on the culprit"
"Nothing"
"They have nothing on him"
"Meaning he is still at large"
"Yeah"
"Was it a robbery"
"They presumed it was initially but soon discovered it wasn't"
"Nothing was stolen"
"How did they know?" I asked
"The cash register was probably still full of cash" She replied
"They are still trying to find out the motive behind the attack"
"What could be the motive behind maiming an old woman if it wasn't robbery"
"Some people are truly psychotic "
"Or a coward. Who the hell goes after an old woman or what could the reason possibly be" I said with distaste
"It probably means the attack was unprovoked" she said
"Which means it did it for fun
" and might do it again" I added
"If your mom sees this, I doubt she would allow you to continue working" she said
"You know I was never in support of you working till late night"
"It is really dangerous and it is high time you saw it"
"If nothing has swayed your decision thus far, this is quite enough to, don't you think"
"Yeah it is"
"I will think about it"
"You should"
I continued eating my food till I saw her packing her books, she has been reading initially prior to our conversation.
"Come on, you are ditching me too after chasing away Phil"
"I have somewhere quite important to be and for the record I didn't chase Phil away, he stormed off" she replied
"After you riled him up" I said
"I told him the truth"
"The truth he didn't need to hear"
"Not my fault he doesn't"
"Yeah"
"Whatever"
She finished packing and rose to leave.
"Are you still coming over to my place this evening so we can read together for the test we have tommorrow"
"Yeah, I should"
"You had better, I heard the test would be very tough and I doubt you've read anything"
"Yeah, true enough"
"When will you be back at home"
"I will call you when I am, that is if your phone is reachable"
"I hope you brought your charger with you" she asked with an eyebrow raise.
"Yeah I did"
"I have been mindful of not forgetting it since the last rebuking from mom"
"Then I will call you"
I watched her exit the café. I was alone again.
I contemplated what to do for the rest of the day. I tought about about going to work but remembered what Janet said. I tought about Mrs. Patterson, the shopkeeper of InsideOut, she's too old to be assaulted for no reason, although I've been to her shop on many occasions and she's probably the most foul mouthed Old woman I've ever seen. But that wasn't enough reason for her to deserve to be harmed.
For a moment I tought about where Peter was, I haven't seen him all day despite searching for him voluntarily and involuntarily with my eyes all day. I have assumed he probably didn't come to school. My toughts kept drifting to him during Ap Biology class
I heard the door of the Cafe creaked, I looked up to see whom it was.
Speak of the devil.
He walked into the building, he look so hot and elegant with his default cold blank expression. I could feel my heart tingling again. He looked around before finding an empty spot to sit at the opposite end of the.I was sitting at the extreme end of the cafe with people and chairs blocking me, I doubt he saw me.
I waited for a few moments before walking up to him. He was so focused on his phone again. I never seemed to get the enthusiasm of people with their phone, to me it was just a tool for communication
"Is this another coincidence, I am starting to think you are stalking me" I said with a laugh
He looked up to me coldly and back at his phone. I regretted saying the last part, he probably took it literally and didn't find any humor in it.
Great going Priscilla! You have managed to ruin the conversation before it began.
"Can I sit here" I asked
He stared at the empty sit and back at his phone, he said nothing
"I will take that as a yes" I said sitting down.
Well he didn't say No.
"Are you waiting for someone "
He still said nothing, he was staring at his phone. This is very akward, I wasn't exactly expecting a very warm reception but most definitely not a cold one either. We had a good night yesterday and parted on friendly terms, so what changed.
"I brought this with me incase I ran into you by chance"
I reached into my bag and brought out his hoodie. He extended his hand to take it and still said nothing. That was the last straw, I shouldn't embarrass myself any further, I rose to leave.
"Don't go"
