The Grimmwolf pack was known for the strength of its alpha. He, like his ancestors, was responsible for taking care of them, and he did it perfectly. Samael was known for his great strength, but also for being ruthless against any enemy who dared to face them. For years, they were one of the most feared packs, until everything changed. Or rather, their leader changed, as one day he fell in love, and from that moment on, nothing was the same.
Lilah was the alpha's mate, and everyone in the pack respected her, although not everyone agreed with her policies, since she was too kind to everyone. According to Samael's family, this could demonstrate weakness to other packs, which is why they began to have more attacks than before. The Grimmwolf pack was considered one of the strongest packs in the city, and even in the whole country, thanks to the strength of its Alpha Samael, who came from a great lineage, considered one of the strongest and largest races of werewolves. His father was a great conqueror, but Samael didn't seek glory by invading other packs as he did before. He decided to search for a home where he could start building a community, as he wanted a place where his mate would be safe. That's how they all moved to the center of the forest, where they had a stream, and the males in the pack started having families, and everything seemed perfect, at least in Samael's eyes. But what he didn't know was that one of his omegas disagreed with this new life they had chosen, which is why he sought to overthrow him. However, no one was as strong as to face Samael. They had to come up with a plan to weaken him, and his enemies didn't hesitate to join forces to betray him. A betrayal that led to the death of his beloved Lilah.
Samael completely lost his sanity and upon his return, he attacked anyone he believed was responsible for betraying him. After a great slaughter, he was exhausted, and his own people exiled him.
Finally, Samael had the huntress in his hands. He could feel his anger growing, and his blood was boiling inside him. He was aware that he was about to lose control of his body. When he was the alpha, he had complete control over it, but today he was at the mercy of himself. But he could also feel something happening in his body, perhaps the revenge made him feel powerful again, that hunger that awakened when he had the huntress in his hands turned him into what he once was. He didn't have the same power as when he was an alpha, but he could be considered a small glimpse of those good times.
"I'm going to devour you, and believe me, I'll enjoy it very much," Samael said, approaching the young woman's face. The wolf's heart was pounding hard, but when he heard the young woman's heart, he couldn't help but be completely distracted, as he felt her heartbeat as if it were coming from his own body. He could hear it pounding in his head, he could almost taste the fear the young woman felt, and that made him smile for the first time in days. He would finally satisfy his voracious hunger for revenge. He observed her for a few seconds, the huntress had her eyes closed, and tears were streaming down her face. The werewolf opened his mouth, but when he was about to bite her, he simply stopped. He really wanted to tear her apart, his whole body begged him to do it, but he couldn't. Suddenly, he let her go forcefully. That caused the young woman to fall abruptly to the ground, while she watched as Samael began to change in front of her. Samael knew he had to make way for the beast, as he could handle what his semi-human form could not. While Samael writhed on the ground, the young woman got up and began to run as fast as she could. The man's screams grew louder, but Abby continued running until she heard a howl that made her stop in fear.
Abby Hamilton reached a cliff, almost falling, but the howl that had caught her attention ironically saved her from doing so. However, the danger still continued. She looked towards the forest and a large wolf emerged from some trees. The moon illuminated them, and it was then that she finally saw it. An enormous beast was approaching her, the red eyes of the werewolf shining so brightly that Abby remained motionless for a few seconds.
"I know you," she whispered softly, beginning to recall the imposing figure of that alpha. She remembered that a few nights ago that alpha had fought against her family. That was the werewolf her father had been trying to catch for so long. The night she saw him, he was not alone, as he was accompanied by a white she-wolf. Which died at her father's hands. Abby looked towards the edge of the cliff and began to slowly approach it while not taking her eyes off the alpha. She couldn't let herself be caught, that beast would torture her in search of revenge.
"I'm sorry," said Abby, raising her hands. "I'm not like them, please don't hurt me," she pleaded, but the wolf continued to approach her. The hungry red eyes of the wolf indicated that she couldn't reason with him. The young woman diverted her gaze towards the river. It looked dangerous, but at least it would be less painful than being killed by that beast. That's why she didn't think twice before throwing herself seconds before Samael tried to attack her. The werewolf almost fell behind her, but his claws managed to hold onto the edge.
Samael watched from the cliff as Abby struggled desperately to stay afloat, but the cold was beginning to freeze her limbs and she was slowly sinking. "Help!" Abby shouted desperately, searching for assistance, but Samael continued to enjoy the scene without even flinching. Memories of the night he lost Lilah returned to the werewolf's mind, causing him to tighten his claws against the ground. That damn human didn't deserve to die drowning, she deserved a worse, more painful end. She was one of them, and just as his entire family was going to die, Abby would have the same fate. He began to feel the young girl's heartbeat again, not for the first time since his natural abilities allowed him to do so with everyone, but this time it was different because he heard those beats as if they were coming directly from his chest. He couldn't recognize his own heartbeat because he was listening to the girl's heart. This disturbed him so much that he moved away from the edge and put a hand on his chest while looking around.
It was then that he felt her heartbeats begin to slow down; she was dying. He watched from the cliff once again, and now she no longer struggled, she had let go and was beginning to sink. The beats were decreasing slowly. Samael fought against himself for a few more seconds, but eventually gave in to his instinct and jumped into the river. He had no idea what was happening right now, or why he was acting this way, but something told him that the witch Lamya would have the answer. While his mind and heart only wanted to kill the hunter in a thousand ways, his instinct compelled him to protect her.
As he sank into the water, he desperately searched for the young girl, and when he found her, he took her in his arms and began swimming towards the surface. He swam to the shore and when he arrived, he let the hunter's body fall to the ground. Samael felt his body burn with anger, he was upset with himself because he had the unconscious girl at his mercy, he could do whatever he wanted with her, but something inside him prevented him. The hunter's heartbeat was almost inaudible now; he sat right in front of her and watched her die.
"I won't let the gods take away the pleasure of killing her with my own hands," he said to himself as he took her in his arms and lifted her onto his shoulder. He walked through the snow until he came to a cave and there he dropped her on the ground again. At least in that place, she would be a little more comfortable, and perhaps she would come to her senses, since she was now unconscious and suffering from hypothermia.
That's when he realized the witch was right, despite his strongest desire to kill the young girl, he couldn't do it. His body seemed to be betraying his mind. His instinct was taking control of him and telling him not to kill her yet. "You will take me to them," he said to himself, understanding that this way he could catch the hunters. Perhaps it was right to leave her alive, since she would be more useful that way. Although it would be a challenge to be with her and not kill her.
