Lyra woke slowly, as if she were rising from a deep, heavy dream.
Her body felt weak, and every small movement sent a dull ache through her limbs. For a moment, she did not open her eyes. She simply lay still, listening.
It was quiet.
Too quiet.
There were no soft ocean currents brushing against her skin. No distant songs of sea creatures. No glowing lights dancing through the water.
Instead, there was stillness.
Warmth.
And something unfamiliar.
Lyra’s eyes fluttered open.
The first thing she saw was a wooden ceiling above her. Dark, solid, and completely different from the coral palace she once called home.
She blinked slowly.
This was not the ocean.
Her breath caught as memories rushed back all at once.
The accusation.
The glowing shell.
Her sister’s smile.
Her father’s cold voice.
Exile.
The storm.
Lyra pushed herself up slightly, wincing at the pain that followed. Her muscles felt weak, like she had used all her strength and had nothing left.
“I made it…” she whispered.
But where exactly had she ended up?
Her eyes moved around the room. It was simple but strong, built from wood and stone. A small fire burned quietly in the corner, giving off warmth. There were no decorations, no bright colors. Everything felt… controlled.
Suddenly, she heard footsteps.
Heavy ones.
Her body froze.
Each step was slow and steady, coming closer to the door.
Lyra’s heart began to race.
The door opened.
A tall man stepped inside.
The moment he entered, the air in the room changed.
Lyra’s breath caught as her eyes met his.
He was tall, broad, and carried a presence that was impossible to ignore. His dark hair was slightly damp, and his sharp eyes were fixed on her, watching her closely.
There was no kindness in his gaze.
Only control.
Only power.
“Awake,” he said.
His voice was deep and firm.
Lyra swallowed, forcing herself to stay calm. “Where am I?”
The man did not answer right away. Instead, he stepped closer, his eyes scanning her face as if he was trying to read her thoughts.
“You are in my territory,” he said finally.
Territory.
That word made her uneasy.
“What does that mean?” she asked carefully.
“It means you are not safe,” he replied.
A chill ran through her.
Lyra pushed herself up a little more, ignoring the pain in her body. “I did not mean to come here. I was caught in the storm.”
“I know,” he said.
Something in his tone made her nervous.
“Then why am I here?” she asked. “Why did you bring me?”
His eyes darkened slightly.
“Because I have not decided what to do with you yet.”
Lyra went still.
That answer was worse than she expected.
“I am not a threat,” she said quickly.
“Everyone is a threat,” he replied without hesitation.
Silence filled the room.
Lyra’s mind raced. She had to be careful. She did not know who this man was, but it was clear he was not someone to trust easily.
“What is your name?” he asked suddenly.
Lyra hesitated.
She could not tell him everything.
But she could not stay silent either.
“Lyra,” she said softly.
At least that part was true.
His eyes stayed on her.
“And what are you?” he asked.
Her heart began to pound.
“I am human,” she replied.
The words felt strange, but she forced herself to remain calm.
He stared at her for a long moment.
Then he said, “You are lying.”
Lyra’s breath caught.
“I am not,” she said, though her voice was quieter now.
“I can smell it,” he continued. “You are not human.”
Her body went still.
He knew.
Or at least, he suspected.
“I… I do not understand,” she said carefully.
His gaze sharpened.
“Exactly,” he said.
Lyra looked away, trying to think quickly.
“I do not remember much,” she said. “The storm… it confused me.”
It was not the full truth.
But it was not a complete lie either.
The man studied her again.
Then, slowly, he stepped back.
“Rest,” he said.
Lyra blinked in surprise.
“That is all?” she asked.
“For now,” he replied.
He turned toward the door.
“Wait,” Lyra said quickly.
He stopped.
“Why did you save me?” she asked.
For a moment, he said nothing.
Then he answered, “I did not save you. You were still breathing.”
And with that, he left.
The door closed behind him.
Lyra let out a slow breath.
Her body relaxed slightly, but her mind was still racing.
That man…
There was something about him.
Something dangerous.
Something powerful.
She looked around the room again.
This was not her world.
She was surrounded by strangers.
And she was weak.
Too weak to protect herself if something went wrong.
“I have to be careful,” she whispered.
She could not let them find out the truth.
Not yet.
Closing her eyes, she tried to rest.
But sleep did not come easily.
Her thoughts kept returning to him.
His cold eyes.
His voice.
His presence.
Who was he?
And why did it feel like meeting him had already changed something?
Outside, the pack was already whispering.
A stranger had entered their land.
And nothing about her felt normal.
Some were curious.
Some were angry.
Some were already afraid.
At the center of it all stood the Alpha.
Watching.
Waiting.
Because deep down, Kael knew one thing.
This girl was not just a stranger.
She was the beginning of something far greater.
Something that would test him.
Challenge him.
And possibly destroy everything he had built.
Yet, despite the warning in his instincts, he did not send her away.
Because a part of him wanted to know the truth.
And once Kael decided to uncover something…
He never stopped until he found it.
