The next morning, I woke up to find Skylar putting out the fire, and Zebalta was nowhere in sight. I got up and turned to Skylar. "Where’s Zebalta?" I asked. "She went home early. She said you could get into trouble without her." she finished. I sighed. "I was afraid of that.” I said “I'm always getting into trouble. My mom says that I keep giving her heart attacks. She wishes I would stop trying to be somebody. I guess she was right." I said. Skylar walked over to me, taking my hands in hers. "You are somebody." She spoke. I looked at her with a look of disbelief. I looked down at our hands and began to rub my thumb against her skin. She was intoxicating. I felt myself turning red. "You saved me. It's because of you that I'm alive. I think that it takes somebody special to take on what you have just accomplished." she continued. I smiled at her. "Thanks." I replied. "What are you thanking me for what exactly?" she asked. "For making me feel better, before I die a horrible death." replied. She laughed. "You're not going to die. I don't think your mother is that evil." I spoke. I coughed out a laugh. "She's my step-mother and she doesn't really like me. She is one of those women who marry men for their money and when they pass away, she gets all the money." I said. When my mother died, my father had wasted no time in replacing her. He was a womanizer, and didn’t care about women’s real needs. He only thought about himself. There was silence for a moment. "When did she die?" asked Skylar. I sighed. "It’s been about six years. My mom died five years ago." I replied. I took in a deep breath. "I'm sorry. How did she die?" she asked. I looked into Skylar’s eyes. "She was attacked and killed by a morph.” I replied. "That's too bad. She would have liked to see you now." she said. I sighed. I looked up at the pretend sky. "Sometimes I look up into the stars and talk to her. I know it's stupid." I spoke. Skylar took my face in her hands and turned me to look down at her. I never realized how short she was. She was the perfect height. She fit into my arms perfectly. I let my mind wander. I thought about how she had cried in my arms. How I just wanted to comfort her. I thought about how she had held onto me for dear life, when we were falling in the portal. I was brought back to reality by Skylar’s voice. "It's not stupid. Do not let anyone tell you that." she said. I smiled "How did your dad die?" she asked. I looked into her eyes and spoke. “He was not a wizard like me. My real mom was the wizard. My dad was a blacksmith in the city of Altrox. He met my mom when she came to get her horse's bridle fixed.” I said. We stood in silence, not saying anything. Then to my astonishment, Skylar leaned up on her tippy toes and kissed my cheek. "Come on, we better get going." she said. “I don’t plan on dying, or being poisoned.” She finished. I was brought back to the seriousness of the situation. How could I have forgotten that she was hurt. I nodded and took her hand in mine. It almost felt like an intimate shock went completely through my body. I felt the shivers going down my neck and spine, the feeling of going cold and then warm again, as well as the tingling in my fingers, toes, and stomach. I looked down to meet Skylar’s eyes, to find that she was looking at me. It almost felt as if she was looking into my very soul. We didn’t say anything. We just walked. We both knew that this friendship would go a long way, and we both didn’t have to say anything. The way I felt about Skylar, was different. I wanted to hold her, and protect her, and even kiss her. Last night, I had dreamed of kissing her. I had woken up to reality. Zebalta had made fun of me. I hated that she could read my emotions. Skylar and I continued walked. It was getting dark, and she was growing tired. We stopped to take a break, by a nearby tree. "So, what is the city Altrox?" she asked. I smiled as I sat down the log next to her. "It's a town that is all blacksmiths and people of trades." I replied. Skylar nodded in understanding. "So, is that where we are going?" She asked. I smiled. “No, we are going to Minube. Which is the town of the Elders." I replied, once again. “I want to bring you to a healer as soon as possible.” I said. She smiled. "Do I get to meet the Elders?" She asked. I chuckled. "No one gets to meet the elders unless you are being punished, dedicating a child to service, or seeing them perform a royal or military funeral." I said. "Ok then." She replied. We sat in silence for a couple of minutes. "I better build a fire. I do not want the zombies to eat up your face." I said in a joking manner. She smiled. "Thanks, that makes me feel so much better." she spoke. I chuckled began to start the fire. Once the fire was done, I sat next to the fire across from Skylar. I didn’t trust myself next to her. She had made it clear that she did not want a romantic relationship with me. I thought back to our conversation, after our almost kiss. She had not said no, just not right now. That did give me a little hope. I pulled out a book from my pocket and started to read. "What's that?" she asked. I smiled. "It's my mom's original spell book." I replied. Skylar smiled. "It must be nice to have something of her." she said. I sighed. "Yes, I vowed that I would learn these spells for her honor. I want to be able to preserve her memory." I said. "That's really nice." She said. I smiled. "Here, let me show you one now." I said. Her eyes got huge. "Luke are you sure that's such a good idea, I mean, what if you turn yourself into a frog, forget that, what if you turn me into a frog? Cause I can't be a frog, I'm too pretty to be a frog." She wined out. My eyebrows rose in amusement. "I can't promise I won't turn you into a frog, but I'm doing it anyway." I replied. Skylar grumbled under her breath, but I couldn’t hear what she said. "This is not going to turn out well." she said in a sing song voice. I rolled my eyes. "Just relax. I'll be fine." I said. Skylar cringed as I lifted his wand into the air. She sighed and covered her eyes with her hands. I cleared my throat and I spoke.
"Here and There, everywhere, make it snow in friendship.
Make it white as pure as light.
Make is wet as water.
Make it frozen, as the air of the mountains.
With these things, I thee summon.”
