Quinn leaned back in the car seat and tightened his grip on the steering wheel. They hadn’t spoken much since last night in the hotel and the words they did say were mandatory, like “what car” or “what food”. She engaged as little as possible with him and only looked over every once in a while. Each time he tried to catch her eye, she avoided. He’d underestimated her skill at checking out.
