Chapter 12 THEY EMERGED FROM Brody’s room the next morning to the smell of breakfast cooking. Brody’s grandfather looked up from the cooktop when he saw them. “You’re just in time for breakfast, guys. Brody, why don’t you set the kitchen table?” “I’ll take care of it, Pop.” They sat down to a breakfast that featured cheese grits, scrambled eggs, sausage, and bacon. “If anyone wants toast, there’s bread in the fridge,” Brody’s grandfather said. “With all this, I don’t need anything else,” Brody said. “Me, neither,” Sheldon said. “I don’t have grits very often,” Brody said, and helped himself to a second serving. They finished breakfast, and Brody cleaned up the kitchen with Sheldon’s help. “I hate to eat and run,” Sheldon said, “but it’s my day off, and I have some errands to run.
