Chapter 23
THEY RETREATED TO the waiting room, but didn’t have long to wait. A few minutes later, a doctor came looking for them. Brody and his father jumped to their feet, and Brian followed suit.
“I’m sorry to tell you folks this,” the doctor said, “but we lost him.”
“But he was doing well enough to be moved into the ICU,” Brody’s father said.
“What exactly happened,” Brody said.
“His heart stopped, and we couldn’t get it going again. An autopsy will tell for sure, but if I had to guess, I’d say there was a blood clot.”
“But he’s on thinners,” Brody said. “I saw his chart.”
“You’re the family member who’s an RN, right?” the doctor said.
“Yes, Sir.”
“Then you know the dangers, and how difficult it is to strike a balance between thin enough and too thin.”
