The wind created a blast sending the men strangling me, flying. Then rolled on the ground before hitting a tree probably breaking every bone they have.
I heard a muffled groan from behind me followed by a whistle.
"That's cool." I faced the source of the voice with a cold smile.
"Not bad yourself. Your highness"
His face showed surprise before he sheepishly smiled while rubbing the back of his head. His blood-red eyes gleaming at me.
"How did you know?"
"Only Lyvarian royalties have those red eyes. The Eye of the dragons." My blue eyes stared at those red orbs that resemble the eyes of a ferocious reptile, and for some reason, I felt something tugging my chest. It felt like that those eyes are so familiar. Like I've been staring at them for a long time. I looked away to divert my attention."I may be a slave now but my father is a well-known trader. I am well aware of what's happening in this world."
"Father?" He jogged towards me before swinging his sword to remove the blood stuck in its blade splashing it on the grass.
"Yes."
"I see." I waited for him to ask more questions but he remained silent before I heard a curse left his mouth.
"My horse is injured!" he yelled "How come I forgot about you." He runs towards the injured animal and held its arrow shot leg.
"Do you know any healing spell?"
"No."
Again maybe it's his mannerism because he rubbed the back of his head again.
Both of us remained silent. More like he muttered incomprehensible words to himself while wrapping a bandage around the horse's leg.
So I will be stuck with this man now. Well, do I have a choice? I thought as I stare at his back.
If I run away he will find me in no time. If I fight him, he may not look like it but he is a formidable foe but he will be a useful ally. If I am stuck with him I can freely blend without attracting too much attention.
Maybe I'll stick with him for a while.
Wait. Why am I thinking of surviving now?
Is there even a reason to live?
That same painful feeling hit my chest. As if something is preventing my heart from beating.
Then emptiness filled me again as if draining away all my will to live. This continued for years until I became numb to it.
Maybe this is my punishment for being the sole survivor. For running away leaving them behind.
Sometimes, I wish I would just cease to exist.
"Hey!" Crimson's voice snapped me out of my thoughts "Let's go."
He must have read my facial expression and answered my unspoken questions. "I planned to leave earlier, if not for these guys. We need to hurry back to Lyvaria."
His eyes glowed brighter and brighter, and I started seeing sparks of red mana around him. So his element is fire, well as expected from the dragon race.
He walked further away from me until we are a couple of feet apart.
"What are you doing?" I asked
"Something awesome? Ah you did it again"
"Did what?"
"You rolled those blue orbs at me again!" He complained.
"No. I didn't" I said whipping my head to the side.
He remained silent after that then red lights started to appear on the ground gaining my attention and many ancient writings started to dance around him in a circular motion
"He shall rise. The dragon of midnight. Tenebris"
Scales started to appear in his body, then red and black light covered him, and little by little he transformed into something that is greatly feared in this world.
My eyes gazed at the towering figure in front of me. Black scales like the night sky above and red eyes like the crimson moon. He placed me in between his forelegs his head bowed down low to face me.
'From my point of view now, you are small.'
Crimson's voice echoed inside my head
I rolled my eyes. What a show-off.
His laugh rang inside my head.
"Everyone will see you." I pointed out his large body. I just can't imagine the chaos he will create once the other nations see a pitch-black dragon flying through their skies.
'First of all, the sky is cloudy. Second I'm pitch black, the dragon of midnight isn't just a nickname.'
His dragon body shifted before he held me in one of his talons making me squirm "Hey!" I glared "What are you doing?"
'Chill I'm not gonna eat you, I don't have an appetite for cold women.'
He gently placed me just above his wings and the moment I looked down it made me realize how high I am.
'Afraid of heights?'
"No."
'Aren't you afraid of me?'
"No."
I heard his laugh again
"I'm not afraid of death, what made you think a dragon scares me?"
'Figures. But not that I'll let you throw away your sad life'
"It sucks to be me, master"
'That cold stare and stoic face doesn't match your sarcasm.'
"Thank you."
He laughed again. 'Well, you'll have to stick with me now. Told you I won't let you go'
"Well. You have me." The moon is not present because of the clouds but I can feel my mana being replenished.
'That's assuring, you better not fall.'
His giant wings flapped creating a powerful gush of wind. The grass swayed as well as the leaves tree, and slowly we soar towards the sky, above the clouds.
The moonlight is so bright up here, the stars continuously twinkled and the wind is cold yet his warm scale keeps it at bay.
Why did he suddenly appear out of nowhere?
Is it fate?
I don't care anyway maybe his brightness can shoo away the darkness inside me. Maybe his warmth can melt away this coldness.
Maybe his presence can fill this emptiness.
Or maybe not.
I don't have anything to bet on this gamble.
Ah. There is my life.
It's either he'll save me or he'll dig my grave for me.
