THE FIRST DAY OF THE inquiry was wearing on. It was now nearly eight o’clock and they’d been on the go since seven-thirty this morning. And Rafferty had to go out and referee his brothers yet. He groaned. ‘Sir?’ He turned his head sharply. He hadn’t noticed Llewellyn get back in the car. He’d left him sorting out a Family Liaison Officer, with the faint hope that, if she was there in the flesh, the Scotts would be too polite to refuse. ‘Nothing,’ he said. ‘Just a family squabble I’m meant to be refereeing.’ His mobile rang. ‘Bill. What can I do for you?’ He said, ‘I see. No, I’ll deal with it. Okay. Thanks.’ He turned to Llewellyn. ‘Bill Beard. It seems two of Ms Scott’s boyfriends have decided that now would be a good time to have a punch-up. They’re at the hospital getting stitched up
