Startled, Jafar looked wildly around. Standing in the passageway barring his way back to the Bridge of Fire was a huge, indistinct figure. Its shape filled the tunnel. Knowing Mount Denavan was the lair of the daevas, Jafar was terrified he faced yet another of these fearsome creatures. “Who are you?” he asked in a trembling voice.
“I am Cari’s uncle. The Righteous Jann have helped hide your activities from Aeshma so he would take no action while you acquired the pieces of the Crystal. I doubt we can disguise this one, however.”
“You… you said she was dying.”
“Yes. She is but an innocent young Jann who placed herself between you and a daeva’s fury. Did you think she could survive such an attack?”
