---
I woke up in Damon's arms.
For a moment, I forgot where I was. The warmth of his body against mine, the steady rhythm of his heartbeat beneath my ear—it felt safe. It felt like home.
Then the memories came flooding back. The Shadow Pack. The abuse. The revelation that I was the True Luna.
*I am not a slave anymore. I am a queen.*
But the thought still felt foreign. Unreal.
Damon stirred beside me, his golden eyes fluttering open. When he saw me watching him, a soft smile spread across his face.
"Good morning, my queen," he murmured.
I felt heat rise to my cheeks. "Good morning."
"Did you sleep well?"
"Better than I have in years," I admitted. "Thank you for staying."
He reached out, gently tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. "I will always stay, Elara. Always."
I opened my mouth to respond, but a knock at the door interrupted us.
"Alpha King," Marcus's voice called from outside. "It's time for training."
Damon sighed, sitting up. "Duty calls. But I'll see you at breakfast."
I nodded, watching him leave. A strange ache settled in my chest. I had grown so used to his presence in just one night. What would I do without him?
*Focus,* I told myself. *You have a destiny to fulfill. A prophecy to complete. You can't afford to be distracted.*
---
The training grounds were bustling with activity.
Warriors sparred in pairs, their swords clashing in the morning light. Archers practiced their aim at distant targets. And Marcus stood at the center of it all, his amber eyes fixed on me.
"You're late," he said, though there was no anger in his voice.
"I'm sorry," I said. "I overslept."
"Don't apologize. Just train harder." He handed me a wooden sword. "Today, we focus on defense. You need to learn how to protect yourself before you can learn how to attack."
I gripped the sword, my palms sweaty. "I'm ready."
Marcus attacked without warning.
I barely managed to block his strike. The impact jarred my arms, sending pain shooting through my shoulders. I stumbled backward, gasping.
"Your stance is too wide," Marcus observed. "Keep your feet closer together. And don't drop your guard."
I adjusted my stance, trying again. This time, I managed to block two strikes before he knocked the sword from my hand.
"Better," Marcus said. "But you're still hesitating. You need to trust your instincts."
"My instincts have been beaten out of me," I said bitterly. "I spent my whole life learning to be weak."
Marcus's expression softened. "Then it's time to unlearn that. You are not weak, Elara. You never were. You are a survivor. And survivors make the best warriors."
His words struck something deep inside me. I picked up my sword and attacked with renewed determination.
We trained for hours. By the end, I was exhausted, bruised, and covered in sweat. But I was also stronger. More confident.
I could do this. I could become the warrior the prophecy demanded.

That evening, Damon took me to the royal library.
It was a massive room filled with ancient books, scrolls, and artifacts. The walls were lined with towering shelves, and the air smelled of old parchment and dust.
"This is where I come when I need to think," Damon said, leading me to a quiet corner. "It's also where we'll find answers about your powers."
"My powers," I repeated. "I don't even know what they are."
Damon pulled a heavy book from the shelf and opened it to a marked page. "The True Luna has abilities no other wolf possesses. You can command wolves telepathically. You can heal with a touch. And you can unleash the Howl—a devastating sonic attack that can destroy armies."
I stared at the page, my heart pounding. "That sounds terrifying."
"It is," Damon admitted. "But it's also a gift. A gift that will allow you to protect those you love."
"And the Shadow Cult?" I asked. "Can I defeat them with these powers?"
Damon's expression darkened. "The Shadow Cult is powerful. They have dark magic, ancient artifacts, and centuries of practice. But they are not invincible. And neither are you."
He reached out, placing a hand on my shoulder. "You have something they don't, Elara. You have heart. You have courage. And you have me."
I looked into his golden eyes, feeling a surge of warmth. "I don't know what I did to deserve you."
"You survived," he said softly. "That was enough."
---
I spent the next few days training with Marcus and studying with Damon.
Marcus pushed me relentlessly, forcing me to confront my fears and my weaknesses. But every day, I grew stronger. Faster. More skilled.
And at night, Damon taught me about my heritage—the Moonblood bloodline, the ancient prophecy, and the history of the Shadow Cult.
It was overwhelming. But it was also empowering. For the first time in my life, I had purpose.
One afternoon, Marcus announced that I was ready for a real sparring match.
"Against a real opponent," he said. "Not just me."
I hesitated. "Who?"
Marcus gestured to a young warrior who had been watching us from the edge of the training grounds. She was tall, with sharp features and cold eyes. She looked like she could kill me without breaking a sweat.
"This is Selene," Marcus said. "She's one of the Alpha King's best warriors. If you can hold your own against her, you'll be ready for anything."
Selene stepped forward, a cruel smirk on her face. "Don't worry, slave. I'll go easy on you."
I bristled at the word. "I'm not a slave anymore."
"Aren't you?" Selene laughed. "You might wear pretty clothes and sleep in a fancy room. But deep down, you're still the same weak Omega who groveled at her Alpha's feet."
Her words cut deep. I felt my hands clench into fists.
"Enough talk," Marcus said, stepping back. "Begin."
Selene attacked fast.
She was faster than anyone I had trained with, her strikes precise and brutal. I barely managed to block her first few blows, stumbling backward as she pressed her advantage.
"Is that all you've got?" she taunted. "I thought the True Luna was supposed to be powerful."
I gritted my teeth, forcing myself to focus. I blocked her next strike and countered with a punch to her ribs.
Selene grunted, staggering back. For the first time, I saw surprise in her eyes.
"Not bad," she admitted. "But not good enough."
She lunged again, aiming for my throat. I dropped low, sweeping her legs out from under her. She crashed to the ground, and I pinned her with my knee on her chest.
"Yield," I said, my voice steady.
Selene stared at me, her face contorted with rage. Then she laughed—a cold, bitter sound.
"Fine. I yield."
I released her, stepping back. Selene scrambled to her feet, glaring at me with murderous intent.
"This isn't over, slave," she hissed. "I'll make you pay for that."
She stalked away, leaving me confused and uneasy.
Marcus approached me, a proud smile on his face. "Well done, Elara. You fought well."
"Who is she?" I asked. "Why does she hate me so much?"
Marcus's expression darkened. "Selene is... complicated. She has been in love with the Alpha King for years. Your arrival has shattered her hopes."
I felt a chill run down my spine. "She wants Damon?"
"Yes," Marcus said. "And she'll do anything to get him. Including destroying you."
---
That night, I told Damon about the sparring match.
He listened quietly, his expression unreadable. When I finished, he let out a heavy sigh.
"Selene has always been ambitious," he said. "She's a skilled warrior, but her heart is full of jealousy and bitterness. I've never encouraged her feelings, but she refuses to let go."
"She threatened me," I said. "She called me a slave."
Damon's eyes flashed with anger. "She had no right to speak to you that way."
"She made it clear she wants you," I said, my voice trembling. "And that she'll do anything to get you."
Damon took my hands, his golden eyes locking onto mine. "Selene can want whatever she wants. But my heart belongs to you, Elara. Only you."
I felt tears prick my eyes. "Why? Why do you love me?"
"Because you are everything," he said softly. "You are brave. You are kind. You survived unspeakable cruelty and still have a heart full of love. That is why I love you."
He leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss to my forehead.
"Never doubt that, Elara. Never doubt how much you mean to me."
I closed my eyes, letting his words wash over me.
For the first time in my life, I felt like I truly belonged.
