Chapter 4: The Awakening

Chapter 4: The Awakening --- I couldn't sleep. Selene's words echoed in my mind like a curse. *"You're still the same weak Omega who groveled at her Alpha's feet."* I knew she was wrong. I had proven myself in training. I had survived years of abuse. I was stronger than she gave me credit for. But her words still stung. I climbed out of bed and walked to the window, staring out at the moonlit courtyard. The Royal Keep was beautiful at night—the silver light casting shadows across the stone walls, the guards patrolling in silent formation. *I should be happy,* I thought. *I have a home. I have a purpose. I have Damon.* But something was missing. Something inside me felt incomplete. *My powers.* Marcus had told me about the True Luna's abilities—commanding wolves, healing with a touch, unleashing the Howl. But I hadn't been able to access any of them. I still felt like a normal wolf. A weak wolf. *Maybe Selene is right. Maybe I'm not strong enough.* I shook my head, pushing the thought away. *No. I will not let her win. I will not let anyone make me feel small again.* A soft knock at my door made me turn. "Come in." Damon entered, his golden eyes filled with concern. "I saw your light on. Are you okay?" "I couldn't sleep," I admitted. "Selene's words keep playing in my head." "Selene is a bitter, jealous wolf," Damon said, stepping closer. "Her words mean nothing." "They meant something to me," I said quietly. "She called me weak. And a part of me believes her." Damon reached out, gently cupping my face. "You are not weak, Elara. You are the strongest wolf I have ever met." "But I can't access my powers," I said, frustration creeping into my voice. "I can't command wolves. I can't heal. I can't do anything." "Your powers are not gone," Damon said. "They are dormant. Sleeping. You spent your whole life being told you were worthless. Your wolf learned to hide to protect itself. But now that you're safe, it will awaken." "How do you know?" He smiled softly. "Because I believe in you. And because your mother visited you in your dreams. She wouldn't have done that if you weren't ready." I took a shaky breath. "I want to try. Tonight. I want to try to awaken my powers." Damon nodded. "Then let's go to the training grounds. I'll help you." --- The training grounds were empty and silent under the moonlight. Damon stood across from me, his golden eyes watchful. "Close your eyes," he instructed. "Take a deep breath. Focus on the power inside you." I did as he said, trying to calm my racing heart. "Now reach inside yourself," Damon continued. "Find the wolf that has been hiding for so long. Tell her she is safe. Tell her she can come out." I focused inward, searching for the spark of power I had felt so briefly during the sparring match. *Nothing.* I tried again. Still nothing. "I can't feel anything," I said, my voice trembling with frustration. "Keep trying," Damon said gently. "It's there. I know it is." I closed my eyes again, pushing deeper. I thought about everything I had been through—the beatings, the starvation, the years of hopelessness. I thought about my mother, who had sacrificed herself to save me. I thought about Damon, who had shown me kindness when I had given up on the world. And then I felt it. A warmth spreading through my chest. A heartbeat, strong and steady, that wasn't my own. *"Elara..."* A voice. Soft, powerful, ancient. *"I've been waiting for you to find me."* "Who are you?" I whispered. *"I am you, child. I am the True Luna. And together, we will destroy our enemies."* My eyes snapped open. They were glowing—a brilliant, blazing silver. My hands crackled with energy. Damon stepped back, his expression one of shock and awe. "By the Moon Goddess... it's happening." I stood up, my body trembling. The power surged through me like wildfire. I could hear wolves howling in the distance—not in fear, but in submission. They could feel me. Every pack for miles could feel the True Luna awakening. "I can feel them," I breathed. "Every single wolf. Their emotions. Their fears. Their loyalties." Damon knelt before me, bowing his head. "You are the True Luna, Elara. The prophecy is unfolding." I looked at my glowing hands, then at the night sky. The full moon was shining directly over the training grounds, bathing me in silver light. And in that moment, I made a vow—not just for revenge, but for justice. *"I will protect the innocent. I will destroy the Shadow Cult. And I will never, ever let anyone hurt me again."* The moon pulsed as if it answered me. --- I spent the next few days learning to control my powers. It was overwhelming at first. The magic flowed through me like a river, wild and untamed. Marcus taught me how to channel it, how to focus it, how to use it without burning myself out. By the end of the week, I could heal minor wounds with a touch. I could command wolves with a single thought. And I could feel the emotions of every wolf in the castle. It was exhilarating. And terrifying. One evening, Marcus approached me with a serious expression. "It's time for you to learn the Howl," he said. "The most powerful ability of the True Luna." "The Howl," I repeated. "The sonic attack that can destroy armies?" "Yes," Marcus said. "But it's dangerous. If you use it without control, you could kill everyone around you—including yourself." I swallowed hard. "Then teach me to control it." Marcus led me to an open field, far from the castle. "The Howl comes from deep within you," he explained. "It's not just a sound—it's an expression of your soul. You need to access your deepest emotions and channel them into the Howl." "What emotions?" I asked. "Whatever you feel most strongly," Marcus said. "Anger. Grief. Love. Hate. The Howl is powered by raw emotion." I closed my eyes, thinking about everything I had been through. The abuse. The loneliness. The years of suffering. And then I thought about Damon. About how he had saved me. About how he had shown me kindness when I had forgotten what kindness felt like. I felt the power building inside me. It rose like a wave, crashing against my walls. I opened my mouth and howled. The sound that came out was unlike anything I had ever heard. It was ancient, powerful, and filled with centuries of pain and hope. The ground trembled beneath my feet. The trees around us shook. When I stopped, Marcus was staring at me with wide eyes. "That was... incredible," he breathed. "I've never seen a Howl that powerful. You're a natural, Elara." I felt a smile spread across my face. "I did it." "You did it," Marcus confirmed. "And you're only going to get stronger." --- That night, I told Damon about my progress. He listened with a proud smile, his golden eyes warm with affection. "I knew you could do it," he said. "I never doubted you." "Neither did I," I admitted. "I was so scared I would fail. That I would never be strong enough." "You are stronger than you know," Damon said, pulling me into his arms. "And you will continue to grow stronger. I'll be by your side every step of the way." I leaned into him, feeling safe and loved. "What would I do without you?" "You'll never have to find out," he murmured. A comfortable silence settled between us. Then Damon spoke again, his voice hesitant. "Elara, there's something I need to tell you." "What is it?" He pulled back, his expression serious. "I've been in contact with Alpha Aldric—the leader of a neutral pack. He's agreed to support your claim to the throne. But he wants to meet you." I blinked. "A meeting? Where?" "At the academy," Damon said. "The Wolf King's Academy. It's where future leaders train. He wants to see for himself that you are the True Luna." "When?" "In two weeks." My heart raced. "Two weeks? I'm not ready—" "You are ready," Damon said firmly. "You've awakened your powers. You've trained with Marcus. You've proven yourself in combat. You are the True Luna, Elara. It's time to show the world." I took a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves. "Okay. I'll do it." Damon smiled, pressing a kiss to my forehead. "That's my queen." --- **End of Chapter 4**
