Chapter 5

“What are you doing in a place like this Jasper? And who is this?” Someone asked Jasper from behind us. I whipped my head backward and saw a very beautiful lady. Even though the cinema was dimly lit, her beauty shone bright. Jasper didn't answer. He kept his head in place like he didn't hear someone speak to him. “Jasper, I'm talking to you. What are you doing here with this low-life girl?” Hold on, did she just call me a low life? I leaned over to Jasper and whispered in his ear… “Someone's talking to you, and that someone just called me a lowlife, I'm about to really make her life low.” He chuckled. Maybe he thought I was joking. But I wish I was too. “Don't worry about her. Ignore her and let's just watch the movie.” He said. I didn't want to do anything, but I also couldn't stop turning my head to see if the lady was still there. She wasn't. “She's gone. She isn't there anymore.” I whispered to Jasper. “Good.” We continued watching the movie. The crazy part of me wished she hadn't left, I wanted drama, but the other side of me was glad she left. Especially because Jasper wouldn't appreciate a scene as he was trying to stay out of the public's eye. I shoved the thought out of my head and concentrated on the movie. 45 minutes later, we were leaving the cinema, when a thought came to mind. “How about you donate something to these people?” “Huh? What do you mean? “You said they were running out of business right? How about you donate something to at least support them or help them grow back up?” “What do you think I run? A charity organization or something. Oh Please.” “I mean, I'm not dragging it or whatever, it's just a suggestion, and you have the means to do it, that's why I even suggested it in the first place.” He didn't answer. We walked in silence and the minute we opened that door, all hell broke loose. The lady from before was standing outside the door, waiting for us. “I asked you a question Jasper, what are you doing in a place like this, and with this girl that looks like she was picked from the slums.” Jasper didn't answer, he made to walk away, but the lady kept blocking his path and then I stepped in. “Who are you, lady? First, you called me a lowlife, and now I'm from the slums. The only reason I'm going to let you free is because of Jasper. Try calling me names when I'm by myself next time, and I'll show you what it means to be a lowlife.” “How dare you talk to me like that? Do you want to get arrested and spend the rest of your life behind bars?” “You sound like those little spoiled brats that weren't loved at home. Please move, we'd like to leave now.” “Jasper, you'd stand there and watch her insult me like this?” Maybe she thought I was one of those people who would wail in front of her, begging to spare their lives just because she threatened to put them in jail. She's got to be shitting me. “You started it,” Jasper replied to her, I could hear the amusement in his voice when he said those words. She noticed this and got more angry. “I'm gonna call my dad right now if you don't tell me who she is.” “She's my girlfriend. Call your dad and tell him you saw me at the theater with a girl I claimed to be my girlfriend.” “Let's go Krystal.” He held my hand, and we left. While in the car, I asked Jasper who she was. “Don't ask any questions. Don't piss me off more than I already am. Just be quiet for the rest of the ride.” “I didn't make you mad, why are you pouring your anger at me?” I muttered under my breath. I knew he heard me, but he didn't say anything. “And why would you say I'm your girlfriend? We barely know each other. It's been less than 24 hours since we met.” He still didn't say anything, but his grip on the wheels tightened with every word that came out of my mouth. I decided to keep my mouth shut for the rest of the ride. When we got to his house, he stepped out of the car immediately, and straight to his room. *** “Breakfast is served.” “Okay,” was his curt reply before the line died. I made up my mind to get my head off everything that happened within the last 24 hours and not get comfortable thinking that I knew Jasper yet when I didn't. After we came back yesterday, he just walked into his room, and I haven't seen him since then. I went back to the kitchen, tidied up, and was going to my room when the front door opened with a loud bang. Who in their right senses would bang a glass door like that? I stopped walking and turned to see who walked in. I saw a man and a woman, the man was an older version of Jasper, and the woman appeared to be his wife, so I guessed they were Jasper's parents. “Good morning ma'am, good morning sir,” I greeted, not wanting to come off as disrespectful. The woman gasped dramatically and walked towards me, pointing an accusing finger. “You, you brat, what have you done to Jasper?” “What do you mean? I didn't do anything to him.” “You liar,” she pushed me. I twisted my ankle and hit my head on the wall. She made to start hitting me, but Jasper's voice stopped her dead in her tracks. “What do you think you're doing? Why would you come here and harass my staff, are you crazy?” Jasper boomed from above the staircase. “Your staff? What do you mean by your staff? She asked with a shaky voice. “What don't you understand by my staff?” She retraced her steps and went to stand beside Jasper's dad. “Dad, why would you bring your wife here to harass my staff? I've told her a million times to stay away from my business. “If she is your staff, then what is this?” He showed Jasper a video on his phone. I peeled through Jasper's huge frame, and the video I saw left my mouth hanging open. Just then, my phone started going crazy…
