Chapter 7: Facing the Past

1026 Words
As the days turned into weeks, Catalina and Jones' relationship continued to blossom. They spent their days exploring the city, trying new restaurants, and laughing together. But despite their happiness, Catalina couldn't shake the feeling that Jones was still haunted by his past. She had seen the pain in his eyes when he talked about his time in the army, and she knew that he still had demons to face. One day, as they were walking through the park, Jones' phone rang. He hesitated for a moment before answering, and Catalina could see the tension in his body. "Who is it?" she asked, as he listened to the person on the other end of the line. Jones' expression was grim. "It's an old friend from the army," he said. "He's in town and wants to meet up." Catalina's heart skipped a beat. She knew that Jones hadn't kept in touch with many people from his past, and she wondered what this friend wanted. "Are you going to meet him?" she asked, as Jones hesitated. Jones nodded. "I have to, Kitty," he said. "I have to face my past." Catalina's heart went out to him, and she took his hand. "I'll be with you," she said. "We'll face it together." Jones smiled, and for a moment, Catalina saw a glimmer of the man he used to be, before the army and the spy agency had changed him. "Spasibo, Kitty," he said, his voice filled with emotion. (Thank you, Kitty.) As they walked to the meeting point, Catalina could feel the tension building in Jones' body. She knew that this was going to be a difficult encounter, but she was determined to stand by his side. When they arrived at the coffee shop, Jones' friend was already there, sitting at a table in the back. He was a tall, imposing man with a rugged face and a stern expression. "Jones," he said, as they approached. "It's been a long time." Jones nodded, his expression grim. "Mike," he said. "What brings you to town?" As they sat down at the table, Catalina could feel the tension between Jones and Mike. She knew that this was going to be a difficult conversation, but she was determined to support Jones every step of the way. As they sat down at the table, Mike's expression turned serious. "Jones, I've been thinking a lot about the past," he said. "About what happened in the army." Jones' eyes narrowed, and Catalina could see the tension building in his body. "What about it?" he asked, his voice low and even. Mike hesitated, as if unsure of how to proceed. "I've been having some nightmares," he said. "About what happened in Afghanistan." Jones' expression softened, and he reached out to put a hand on Mike's arm. "I'm sorry, Mike," he said. "I know how hard it can be to deal with the past." Mike nodded, his eyes welling up with tears. "It's just...I keep thinking about what we did," he said. "About the things we saw." Catalina's heart went out to Mike, and she reached out to put a hand on his other arm. "You're not alone, Mike," she said. "Jones has been through the same things." Mike looked up at her, his eyes filled with gratitude. "Thank you," he said. "Just talking about it makes me feel a little better." As they sat there, talking and sharing their experiences, Catalina could see the tension in Jones' body begin to ease. She knew that this was a difficult conversation for him to have, but she also knew that it was necessary. After a while, Mike stood up to leave, his expression looking a little lighter. "Thanks, Jones," he said. "Thanks for listening." Jones nodded, standing up to hug his friend. "Anytime, Mike," he said. "We're in this together." As they watched Mike walk away, Catalina turned to Jones with a question in her eyes. "How are you feeling?" she asked. Jones took a deep breath, his expression thoughtful. "I'm feeling...better," he said. "Talking about the past isn't easy, but it's necessary." Catalina nodded, her heart full of love and admiration for Jones. She knew that he was strong and brave, and that he would always face his demons head-on. As they walked away from the coffee shop, hand in hand, Catalina knew that Jones was finally starting to heal. She knew that it wouldn't be easy, but she was determined to stand by his side every step of the way. As they walked, Jones turned to her with a small smile. "Spasibo, Kitty," he said. (Thank you, Kitty.) Catalina's heart skipped a beat as she looked at him. "Za chto?" she asked. (For what?) Jones' smile grew a little wider. "For being here for me," he said. "For listening." Catalina's eyes filled with tears as she looked at him. "Ya lyublyu tebya, Jones," she said. (I love you, Jones.) Jones' expression softened, and he pulled her close. "Ya lyublyu tebya, Kitty," he whispered back. (I love you, Kitty.) As they hugged, Catalina felt a sense of peace wash over her. She knew that Jones was finally starting to heal, and that their love was strong enough to overcome anything. The next few days passed in a blur of activity. Jones and Catalina spent their days exploring the city, holding hands, and laughing together. They talked about their future, making plans for a life together. One evening, as they sat on the couch watching the sunset, Jones turned to her with a serious expression. "Kitty, I want to ask you something," he said. Catalina's heart skipped a beat as she looked at him. "What is it?" she asked. Jones took a deep breath. "Will you move in with me?" he asked. Catalina's eyes widened in surprise, but then a smile spread across her face. "Da, Jones," she said. (Yes, Jones.) Jones grinned and pulled her close. "I'm so happy, Kitty," he whispered. As they hugged, Catalina knew that she had made the right decision. She knew that she was ready to start a new life with Jones, and that their love would only continue to grow stronger.
