KELVIN'S FINAL MOVE

714 Words
Marlene sat rigidly across from Kelvin, her hands gripping the edge of his desk. The message on his phone still burned in her mind: “When should I make the final move?” Her eyes narrowed. “Kelvin… what move? What exactly are you planning?” Kelvin leaned back, his expression calm, almost unsettling. “The final move, Marlene, is simple. The divorce papers are ready. They’re at home. You take them, sign them, pack your things, and leave my house.” Marlene’s jaw dropped. “Leave your house? Which house? This house, the company… everything here belongs to me! My father left it all for me!” Kelvin’s gaze didn’t waver. “You’ve forgotten already? You signed the power of attorney. Everything you claim as yours, home, company, assets they are legally mine now. I control it all. Your father’s legacy, your inheritance… it’s under my name. That is why you go home, sign the papers, and leave. That is the final move.” Her hands trembled. “No… you can’t. You can’t just take everything! You’ve planned this… every detail… years of my trust, my love… all of it… for this?” Kelvin’s voice was flat, emotionless. “I did not take anything, Marlene. You handed it to me. The papers at home are just the formal step. Sign them, leave the house, and accept reality. Refuse, and I proceed without your cooperation. Legally, I don’t need you to stop me.” Marlene felt a chill crawl down her spine. The house she had lived in, the company she had trusted him with, all of it's gone, because she had trusted him. Every memory of care, of tenderness, of love, now felt like a calculated trap. She swallowed hard. “And after I sign… I just leave? That’s it? Just… leave my life behind?” Kelvin’s eyes met hers, calm, commanding. “Yes. You leave. Pack your belongings, sign the papers, and get out. You have been given the courtesy to handle this yourself. That is the final move, Marlene. After that… your presence is no longer necessary.” Her fists clenched. “So… everything my father left behind… everything I built… gone because of a signature I didn’t fully understand?” He leaned forward slightly, voice still unflinching. “You understood perfectly. You signed the power of attorney willingly. I am simply executing what was already decided. The final move is just formalizing it. Nothing more, nothing less.” Marlene’s chest tightened, anger and disbelief roaring through her. “And you… you sit here calmly? Acting as if this is nothing? As if my life is yours to destroy?” Kelvin’s lips curled faintly, not with amusement, but with absolute detachment. “You handed me the control, Marlene. This is merely the conclusion. The papers are at home. That is the move. Go there, sign, pack, leave. End of story.” Marlene’s hands shook violently, and she pressed them to her face for a moment, trying to steady her racing thoughts. Her father’s legacy… her home… her life… all manipulated, stolen. Finally, she stood abruptly, the chair scraping against the floor. Her voice shook, low but firm. “I… I need a moment. I need to think.” Kelvin’s eyes followed her calmly, unblinking. “Take all the time you need. But remember, the papers are at home. You go there, sign them, and leave. That is the final move.” Marlene didn’t respond. She walked toward the door, her legs unsteady. Each step felt heavy, every heartbeat echoing in her ears. She paused at the threshold, glancing back at him one last time. “I will go… but this isn’t over,” she said quietly, voice trembling with a mixture of rage and disbelief. Kelvin didn’t move, didn’t flinch. “It is over, Marlene. For me, it is already done.” She opened the door and stepped out, leaving the office behind. The weight of betrayal pressed down on her chest like a physical force. She knew exactly where she had to go. The papers. Her home. The final move. And as the door closed behind her, the cold calm in Kelvin’s eyes remained, a chilling reminder: the game was far from over, and the night had only just begun.
