The other party responded immediately— "To be honest, I’ve often wondered what kind of woman you are. You’ve far exceeded my expectations, but I can’t help but wonder—are you really the person in this picture? Forgive my frankness, but you don’t strike me as someone who would take a photo like this." "Why don’t we exchange phone numbers and meet in person? Then, you might just believe me," Christina quickly replied. "Fair enough. Here’s my personal number. Feel free to call. My real name is Kaven. And yours?" "Christina. My number is…” "You really don’t mind if I call you?" "Of course not." "And one more thing: you're the heir to the Lingkong Group, aren’t you, Kaven?" “…Yes, I won’t deny it. You've found me out. I have to take care of a few things, though, so let’s chat again another day." “Jessica, this is beyond perfect, you know that?” After Kaven signed off, Christina was still wrapped in a euphoric haze. Her mind was already conjuring vivid scenes of a splendid future with him—her ultimate goal was within reach! “Uh-huh… are you done here? I still have exams to grade.” “Oh, I know, I know! You didn’t have to say it. I’m off, then, to plan tomorrow’s facial and spa day. I hear Kaven is constantly surrounded by beauties—if I don’t step up my game, how am I supposed to compete with them?” She knew well the difficulty of standing out in a crowd of attractive women. While she prided herself on her beauty and charm, she also understood… Men with wealth are rarely short on female admirers; it’s a time-tested reality. And when they’re as handsome as Kaven, well, that only adds fuel to the fire. "Wish me luck, Jessica!” “Best of luck to you.” Watching Christina joyfully float out of her room, Jessica moved her hand to the mouse. She clicked on the name “Kaven” in her MSN contact list, selected “Delete Contact,” and erased his presence from her list for good. It had been over a year—nearly two, actually. Those days had been some of the happiest of her life, but now it was time to let go, to put an end to it all. She didn’t want to be on MSN anymore. She didn’t want to see the name "Kaven" ever again, especially since he was now likely to become Christina’s boyfriend, or even her brother-in-law one day… A bitter smile tugged at her lips. It had always been like this, from childhood until now—whatever Christina wanted inevitably became hers. Jessica never had the right to say no. “Is she the girlfriend you mentioned, Kaven? I hear she’s quite the intellectual,” Thomas remarked, his gaze lingering on Christina, who was radiant and captivating as she stood beside Kaven. “Yes, and thanks to her, I made a little money,” Kaven said with a smile. “You used to tell me how much you wanted to meet Jessica, remember? You thought she might be, well… less than attractive, so I told you not to invest too much hope, lest you get nightmares from the shock.” “Oh, so this is how you described me? How charming of you!” Christina feigned indignation, a playful pout forming on her lips. "But truth be told, you didn’t really invest much thought into her,” Thomas chimed in with a smirk. "You only mentioned her in passing once or twice.” “Miss Richter, hello! I’m Kaven’s good friend, though I consider myself somewhat unfortunate to have known him for so many years. He often speaks about you.” “Does he?” Christina’s smile was natural, as though meeting Kaven’s friends was something she was already accustomed to. The day after they exchanged photos, she had called Kaven, taking the initiative to pursue him. Kaven was an elusive man, difficult to read and nearly impossible to decipher, but none of that mattered to her. After all, he was already hers, wasn’t he? It had been a year and a half now—a year and a half of their relationship. And during that time, she had gained plenty from being with him. Kaven was a generous man, willing to spend freely on her, giving her jewelry and other luxuries. To her, he was a flawless, perfect partner. Every time she thought of how lucky she was to have him, she felt a surge of gratitude toward her sister, Jessica. “Christina, since we started dating, I don’t think you’ve logged into MSN at all!” Kaven remarked casually. “Hmm? Well, we’re dating now—why would I need MSN?” “Good point,” Kaven nodded. “Oh, I have something here—some stock portfolios. Could you take a look and pick a few with stable growth for me?” “What?” Christina felt faint. This was out of her depth, entirely removed from her world. “Why don’t we do this,” she said, mustering her composure. “I’ll take these papers home to study them. Honestly, it’s a rare chance for us to be together, and you’re already asking me to analyze stocks? Isn’t that a bit heartless?” “Kaven, that’s not quite fair of you,” Thomas interjected. “The lady has a point! You’re supposed to be spending quality time together, and you’re putting her to work?” “Is that envy I detect?” Kaven teased. “You could always find someone yourself. And… actually, if Christina agrees, I’m thinking we could marry by the end of the year. Christina, what do you say?”
