Shay's POV
I've spent the last two months locked away in my bedroom. Uncle David had all of my things from my old house moved into a bedroom here for me. He said this was my home now, but nothing felt like home without Aunt Maria. The girls came to me every day trying to get me to come out of my room, but I didn't want to. All of my meals were brought to me and the girls even brought my schoolwork to me so I wouldn't miss out on anything. Uncle David came to me often trying to convince me to try to connect with my wolf, but I wanted nothing to do with her. She's been pestering me, trying to get me to talk to her, but I don't want to. I've tried texting and calling my mother multiple times but she never answered. I had a bad feeling something had happened. I didn't want that to be true. I just got her back and I wouldn't be able to take it if I lost someone else.
"Shay." I looked over to see Uncle David's mate, Marisol, entering my room. She came to see me twice a week at first, then she started coming more often. Unlike everyone else, she didn't try to get me to talk. I appreciated that. She just sat with me. Her presence gave me comfort. "Would you like to take a walk with me? I think the fresh air would do you some good."
"I don't want to talk and I don't want to be around anyone," I told her.
"You don't have to talk if you don't want to," she said. "It will just be you and I."
She sat on the bed beside me but didn't say anything else. She took my hand in hers and held it while sitting quietly with me. Maybe just a few minutes outside would be okay. Then I could come back to my room.
"Okay, I'll come," I told her.
"Great. I'll give you a few minutes to get dressed, then I'll come back to get you."
After she left, I got my things together so that I could take a shower. I looked at myself in the mirror and was shocked at how I looked. My hair hadn't been combed and my eyes were red and puffy from all of the crying. This wasn't like me at all. It would take more than a few minutes to get myself together. My hair alone would take a lot of time. I turned the shower on and grabbed my detangling brush and comb. Hopefully, Luna Marisol wouldn't get upset about me taking so long, but this needed to be done.
Isaiah's POV
I was still stunned by the information given to me by Alpha David. Shay was his niece. Luna Denise was her mother. I understood why he was keeping her a secret. She would be in danger if her father or anyone from Moon Blood Pack found out who she was. I always knew Alpha David's brother Carl was evil, but there was never enough proof to do anything about it. No one ever wanted to talk about the things he may have done and Alpha David didn't want to Alpha command them to tell him anything, figuring they were already forced into enough. He always said that they would come to him when they were ready. I never thought he was out there r****g anyone; and human children too. Shay was proof of his evil, so I figured that would be enough to at least banish him, but Alpha David said it wasn't enough. He needed to speak with the elders.
Shay was the most beautiful she-wolf I had ever seen. I couldn't take my eyes off of her when we stepped into her hospital room. Moro was shouting MATE in my head, but my feet were planted on the floor. My heart was aching for her. Her once faint scent was now strong and overpowering my senses. I guess now that her wolf has come out, I am able to smell her scent even more. She smelled like a beautiful meadow. Her scent reminded me of the garden my mother used to take me to when we visited my grandparents at her former pack. I wanted to reach out and take her into my arms but I knew she had been through a lot.
I had to constantly hold Moro back. He wanted to claim her. The only things that I could do to keep him calm was to let him go for a run or to sit at Shay's bedroom door and take in her scent. Her scent kept him the calmest. I was happy when he said that he was finally able to connect with her wolf after some pushing. He said her wolf was beautiful but he wouldn't tell me what her name was. He said that Shay was fighting her wolf and wouldn't talk to her. I needed to talk to Alpha David about this. Rejecting her bond with her wolf would put her in more pain and make it harder for her to heal.
I knocked on Alpha David's office door and walked in after I heard him respond. He was sitting there with my dad and the Luna. The Luna smiled at me before leaving the office and closing the door behind her.
"I know you're here to talk about Shay," Alpha David said. "But we already had this discussion. She is still healing."
"I'm not here about claiming her," I told him. "I'm here about helping her. Moro has been able to connect with her wolf and he says that she is rejecting her wolf. She is doing more damage to herself. We have to come up with a way to help her."
"Luna Marisol will be with her today. She convinced her to go outside today. Let's see how that goes and then we can take it from there. She has been through a lot in such a short period of time and it will take her some time to heal. I understand that she is your mate and you are desperate to claim her but she needs time."
I sat in the chair in front of his desk. I know he was right but I wanted to be near her. I needed to be near her. Plus, it was a constant battle with Moro trying to fight me to get to her. I always thought that when I found my mate, we would live happily and be in love. I never thought that I would have to fight for my mate the way I knew that I was going to have to fight for Shay. She was rejecting her wolf and I feared that she might reject me and my wolf.
After leaving Alpha David's office, I decided to go to the kitchen to grab something to eat. I hadn't eaten since yesterday and I was now starting to feel it. Plus, I wanted to see if I could catch a glimpse of Shay on her way out.
Sitting at the table, eating my food, her scent hit me and Moro's ears perked up.
"She's beautiful," Moro purred.
Our eyes connected for a split second and my breath caught. She quickly looked away and walked out of the door with Luna Marisol.
