Chapter 9

1444 Words
Isaiah's POV I know that I smelled my mate at the mating ball. Her scent was faint but it was there. I needed to know who she was. I longed for my mate. I wanted the love and connection that I've seen so many mated couples share. I looked all over the room for her and even went into the garden seeking out her scent but didn't find her. Defeated, I went up to my room for the night. I could smell her on my floor a I passed each door. It was like her scent was taunting me. After showering, I got in my bed but couldn't fall asleep. All I could think about was my mysterious mate that I wanted to find. I wondered what she looked like and what our future would be. I sat up in my bed and looked at the clock. It was already 4am. I've been lying here for hours unable to sleep. "We have to find her," I told my wolf Moro. "We will find her," he said. "I will talk to Alpha David and see if I can get info about the other packs that were here." "Sounds like a plan. We can go search for her." Since it was obvious that I wasn't going to get any sleep, I decided to go for a run and get a workout. Morning training was canceled because Alpha David wanted anyone that found their mates to be able to spend time together. I stepped outside into the cool morning air and quickly shifted into my wolf. He took off running at top speed. He needed this run as much as I did. Shay's POV I don't know how long I was out, but when I woke up my body was sore. My head was no longer pounding, but my heart was aching. I remember everything that happened. I was relieved when I woke up and saw that nobody was in the room with me. I needed some time to myself. I needed to think everything over. We should've never come here. My aunt would still be alive if we stayed in New York. "Hello Shay." Where did that voice come from? I thought I was here alone. "Who's there?" I asked. "I'm Jinaya, your wolf." "I don't want a wolf. Go away." I covered my ears. I knew she was in my head. I didn't want to hear her. I didn't want a wolf. Being a wolf was the cause of all of my problems. "I want to help you," she said. "I don't want or need your help. Go away!," I shouted. I needed to get out of here. I started unplugging the machines from my body. I needed to get out of here. The door opened and nurses started running in trying to restrain me. "Please calm down. You need these machines," a nurse said. I tried pulling g away from them. I tried to get up and run but they were blocking the door. I could feel a rage building up inside of me. I started swinging my arms and made contact with one of the nurses face. Her nose immediately started bleeding and I panicked. What have I done? Alpha David's POV I was sitting in my office doing some research on early shifts and trauma trying to find a way to help Shay. I've been here since last night and still haven't found anything. Along with that, I was also trying to find out who would kill her aunt. I knew it was a wolf. I could smell the scent of one when we went to her house and found her body. I couldn't understand why a wolf would kill her. She was human and no one knew who she was or of Shay's existence. I wanted to do everything I could to find out who had done it. Losing her caused Shay a lot of pain and I was hoping that finding out the who and why would help heal her some. I still haven't heard from Luna Denise. Shay had been here for a week and I wanted her mother to know what was going on with her as well as what happened to her aunt. I ran my hands through my hair as I slammed yet another book closed that was of no help to me. Maybe the Elders would have some information for me. I'll set up a meeting with them to see if they could help, but I need to be discreet. I couldn't have anyone finding out who Shay was as of yet. A knock at my door stopped my thinking. "Come in," I called out. The door opened and Isaiah walked in. "Hey, I thought you were heading off to look for your mate." "I will go soon," he said. "I figured you could use my help here. I spoke to the mother of a friend of mine. She gave me some information that I think may help. She said she knew of a situation like this before where the wolf came out early to protect the human counterpart. She said the trauma is what causes the wolf to come out early." "And what happened to them?" I asked. "The she-wolf was fine. She suffered a lot of abuse so it took her some time to be okay mentally and physically, but having her wolf helped her." "So Shay will be okay?" "Yes, she will be okay as long as she doesn't fight her wolf, which, from what you told me, is what she was doing. Fighting her wolf would prolong her pain. Embracing and becoming one with her wolf will help her." He paused. "If you don't mind me asking Alpha; who is she?" "Alpha, we need you in the clinic. The girl is awake and she is fighting." "I'll be right there." "I'll tell you later," I told him. "She's up and she's fighting the nurses." I ran from my office with Isaiah trailing behind me. I didn't want anyone to see her and I Alpha commanded the doctors and nurses not to tell anyone about her once they saw her eyes. I knew they would have questions. I knew that I could trust Isaiah though. I knew that eventually I would have to tell him everything. We walked into the room and Shay was sitting in the corner of the room with her knees to her chest and her head down. I could hear her crying. "What happened?" I asked. "We went into the room because she was removing herself from the machines. When we tried to stop her, she began fighting and tried to leave. She broke Nurse Jenny's nose and busted Sophia's lip. When she saw the blood, she looked afraid and began backing away until she was in that corner. Everything happened so quickly." I mindlinked all of them to leave as I walked over to her and kneeled beside her. She looked up at me, tears streaming down her face. "I'm so sorry, Alpha David. I never meant to hurt anybody. I just got so angry that they were trying to stop me. I don't know where all of the rage came from." I pulled her into my arms. "It's Uncle David to you and you don't have to apologize. The rage came from your wolf. She may have thought they were trying to hurt you. She was trying to protect you." "She spoke to me," she said. "But I don't want a wolf. I can't be here. I just want to be normal." She started to cry again. I didn't know what to say to her. She wasn't normal. Hopefully, her wolf will be able to help her. Right now, all I could do was try to soothe her until she was calm enough to have a conversation. She was breaking down right in front of me and I knew this would take some time. She placed her head on my shoulder and I could hear her breathing begin to slow. She was falling to sleep. I linked my Beta. "Is the room set up?" "Yes. All of her things are already there. The girls set everything up for her." "Good. I will be bringing her there today. I think she may be more comfortable closer to me." "But what about your brother?" "I haven't thought that far yet. Right now, she is my priority." I looked up at Isaiah and he was still standing in the same spot at the door, he had a far-off look. "Isaiah, are you okay?" I asked. "Alpha, she's my mate."
