Victor's POV:
Victor mentally cursed himself as he stared at the blank screen of his laptop. One look at her beautiful smile and he almost considered actually claiming Clara the human.
Ugh, even the thought of it repulsed him.
Vivian walked in to the room "You asked to see me?" One look at his face and she was mildly alarmed "Dude what's wrong, you look like you're about to puke".
"Did you meet my new secretary?"
"I think you know I did"
"No, did you meet her, talk to her, find out where she's from and the likes?"
"No..." she replied, looking at him quizzically "was I supposed to have done that? since when do I do that?" she asked, pulling out one of his chairs and taking a seat opposite her brother.
"I don't know, when we get mated to random human girls" the silence was deafening and then Vivian bursted out laughing
"That was a good one, I don't know when you decided to take up comedy but you're really good" she said wiping off invisible tears from her eyes then quickly sobering up after realizing he was not laughing along with her "Wait tell me you're joking, Victor she's a freaking human. How the hell would that even work?".
"I don't know" he said visibly frustrated and running his fingers through his hair.
"Hey, I mean this is wild but I mean after everyone gets over the fact that she's a human we could focus on the fact that you've finally found your mate" she said.
"What do you mean get over the fact that she's human? Vivian that is the biggest fact, there's no getting over it" he said, his voice dropping to a violent whisper as though there were ears listening to their conversation.
"Woah calm down, Vic. Yeah we only hear of extremely rare cases where humans and werewolves get mated but look on the bright side, you get to stand out for more than being the only black-haired person in the family of redheads" she said, her poor attempt at making a joke only angering him further.
"Do you think this is funny?" he said, glowering at her
"A little" she said not being able to hide her amusement now "Listen, we both know the goddess does as she pleases, you can not begin to question her so why don't you just chill the hell out and give this a chance. "You literally have no other option except you plan to reject her and severe the bond" she said with a light chuckle. He turned his head slightly, not
giving an answer which was a statement on it's own.
"Holy s**t" Vivian said "You want to severe the bond?. You cannot do that" she said, sitting up in her seat " You're the first son Victor, everyone has been up dad's ass as to when you'd finally get a mate bringing you a step closer to taking over as the Alpha. The goddess does not give second mates to ones that reject
Victor, do not reject her!" she lectured him.
"I know, I know" he sighed, resigned. "How do I even begin to talk to her about it. I mean, what if she does not believe in werewolves?"
"What is she, 5?" Vivian said, rolling her eyes. "We may have stopped announcing ourselves and showing our wolf forms in the general public but we're not some kind of fairytale humans have forgotten about".
"Yeah, you're right"
"Besides, I have a lunch date planned with her in about two hours. I can butter her up for you. I was going to try to make friends with her anyways" Vivian said, getting to her feet.
"Do that, thank you"
"You're welcome, I love you"
"Sure" Victor replied awkwardly, making Vivian roll her eyes once more but with a faint smile on her lips this time.
Clara's POV
"You've been extremely helpful, Mr Smith. Thank you" Clara said, with a big smile, to Mr Matt Smith from IT, as she grabbed her company laptop and prepared to leave. He had been extremely helpful, coaching her through everything she needed to know and going over anything she did not get right away.
"Please Clara, call me Matt. Mr Smith is my dad and I am just 27" he chuckled "and you are very welcome" he added, mirroring her smile.
"Would you like to join Vivian and I for lunch, Matt?" she asked, determined to make as many friends as she can while also trying to blend in with company staff.
"Aww, I'm so sorry, I'm swamped with work at the moment but I'd love to take you up on your offer tomorrow though" he said, looking quite bummed that he couldn't join them.
"It's ok, Matt. See you tomorrow " she waved him goodbye and made her way to the stairs that led back up to Vivian's -or her- desk.
Walking up the stairs, laptop and iPad in hand, she wondered what she was so anxious about earlier in the morning. So far, she had met some of the sweetest people and she was so optimistic that she was going to meet more.
She checked her watch and realized that it was almost time for lunch. She had spent a little over 2 hours down at IT and she got to chat with the nicest guys for a little bit and now she was ready to grab lunch with her new friend, Vivian.
It was so easy to have a sunshine personality like Clara’s when life treated you as good as it did her.
