Chapter 38Having seen what had transpired between Billie and Destinova, Angelo started sprinting right behind the girl toward the old church, when another gunshot came from somewhere behind his right. Turning back, Mike saw his partner standing and holding his revolver. With his last bullet, Gabriel Bronson shot in the back one of the men in black who had risen on the right side of the plateau with the intention of mowing down the mustached detective. Mike and Gabe’s eyes met and they both briefly nodded, after which Gabe pointed toward the ruins and all three of them started retreating in that direction.
