Chapter 29“How are the pancakes?” Billie Briar asked while examining the menu. “The sweet special of the house, they’re great.” the young waiter replied kindly. He was about ten years younger than Billie, skinny and tall, wearing the official uniform of the unremarkable restaurant named “Ray” that Billie had stopped at following Linda Myers’ recommendation. The boy’s badge read “Chad”. “Excellent. Two pancakes with some homemade jam. You got peach?” Chad was clumsily writing this down in his notepad and focusing on the answer. “Mhm. Peach. Two pancakes. Be ready in a couple of minutes.” Pleased with his success, he headed for the kitchen to place the order.
