I replied, “Weren’t they? Look at the Star Trek TV series. Those were morality plays, moral questions explored through the viewport of science fiction. First interracial kiss, and so on. The perennial-selling books all deal with key moral questions we all share. The cheap books are simply thrillers or mono-plot romances that are like eating candy. You want more, but they don’t really keep you going. The perennial-sellers deal with real problems and choices the vast majority of people have to deal with.”
Sal asked, “So you’re saying that we’re being pushed into believing things, but we also have our own unanswered questions?”
