Confused morning

*Anaïs* I open my eyes to the familiar sight of our bedroom walls, and for the first couple of seconds it is utterly confusing, like I had subconsciously expected to wake up somewhere else. Shaking my head lightly, I am feeling groggy and disoriented. The morning sunlight spills in through the curtains, casting a warm glow across the room. My head throbs with a faint but persistent ache, almost like a hangover, but I am rather sure I was not drunk last night. My thoughts feel jumbled and disconnected, like dreams are still pulling at me. I am alone in the bed, but Mathis’ side is rumbled, telling me he has slept there.
