News of Christian's release spread quickly across Metropolis. The police had publicly cleared his name, and many people who had doubted him began to see him differently. But not everyone was pleased. Ethan Cole sat alone in his luxurious office, his fists clenched in anger. His carefully planned scheme had failed, and Christian had escaped without a stain on his reputation.
Moments later, Ethan was summoned to his father Charles Cole's office. The room overlooked the glittering skyline of the city, a symbol of the Cole family's wealth and influence.
"You've embarrassed this family," Charles said coldly without looking away from the window. "You underestimated an ordinary young man."
Ethan frowned. "He was just lucky. Someone must have interfered."
Charles slowly turned to face him. "Luck doesn't clear a man's name. Someone like Christian is either exceptionally intelligent... or hiding something far greater than we know."
Those words echoed in Ethan's mind as he left the office. For the first time, he wondered if Christian was more than a poor café worker.
Elsewhere, in an underground meeting room hidden beneath one of Metropolis' oldest buildings, several powerful businessmen gathered around a polished table. At the head sat Victor Kane, a ruthless businessman and one of the Adams Family's oldest enemies.
"For years," Victor began, "we have waited for Matthew Adams to grow old and step aside. But before that day comes, we must discover who will inherit the Adams empire."
One of the men leaned forward. "Do we know who the heir is?"
Victor smiled faintly. "Not yet. But our sources say Matthew Adams has recently taken an unusual interest in a young man living in this city."
"Find him," Victor ordered. "If he is truly the Adams heir, he must never return to claim his inheritance."
While dangerous plans were unfolding in secret, Christian remained completely unaware. He focused on his simple life and continued working diligently at Mr. Daniel's café.
One afternoon, after closing time, Mr. Daniel handed him a sealed envelope.
"You've earned this," he said with a proud smile.
Christian opened it and saw his first monthly salary. He stared at the money for several seconds before smiling.
"This is the first money I've ever earned through honest work," he said quietly.
Instead of spending it on himself, Christian visited a nearby supermarket and bought bags of rice, vegetables, bread, milk, and other groceries. He carried them to the small home of an elderly widow who lived alone near his apartment.
The old woman looked at the groceries, then at Christian, her eyes filling with tears.
"My son," she whispered, "may God reward your kindness."
Christian simply smiled, wished her well, and quietly walked away.
Across the street, a man wearing dark sunglasses observed everything from inside a parked car. He picked up his phone.
"The target is generous," he reported. "He doesn't behave like someone raised in wealth."
A cold voice answered from the other end.
"Keep watching him. Report every move."
That evening, Christian left the café and began walking home. As he crossed several streets, he noticed a black SUV following him from a distance. Whenever he changed direction, the vehicle did the same.
His instincts immediately warned him that something was wrong.
Christian stopped.
The SUV stopped as well.
The doors suddenly flew open, and four masked men rushed towards him.
"Get him!" one shouted.
Christian reacted instantly. He stepped aside to avoid the first punch, blocked another attack, and delivered a powerful kick that knocked one attacker onto the pavement. The remaining men surrounded him, moving with the discipline of trained fighters.
Christian fought bravely, but he realised they were skilled professionals. As they closed in, police sirens suddenly echoed through the streets.
The masked men immediately retreated into the SUV and sped away before the police arrived.
Breathing heavily, Christian watched the vehicle disappear into the night.
"Who are they?" he asked himself.
High above, hidden on a rooftop, a sniper lowered his rifle and spoke quietly into a communicator.
"The target can fight."
Victor Kane's calm voice replied, "I expected nothing less."
"What are your orders?"
Victor answered without hesitation.
"Continue watching him. If he truly is the Adams heir, the next attack will not fail."
As Christian slowly walked home, he couldn't shake the feeling that invisible enemies were closing in around him. For the first time since arriving in Metropolis, he realised that his greatest challenge was no longer surviving poverty—it was surviving those who wanted him dead.
