I stood there at the edge of the metal cage surrounding the pit, this cage is what separates us from the stands filled with people cheering for a champion to be made, as for those of us who will be fighting all we hear is cheering for our blood to be spilled. My cloak hiding me in the shadow of the stands watching, praying that I won't be one of the first to fight. The shrill sound of a bell rang throughout the arena, signifying that the first match is about to begin. The announcer began his usual introductions but I didn't pay attention to him because he wasn't important, the man standing in the middle of the arena was the important one. I couldn't believe my eyes, it was Donny! I looked at him with horror. I wanted to fall to my knees. I was scared, no, I was terrified. What was he doing here!?!?!
Why? Why him of all people!?!?! Tears welled in my eyes and before I knew it my hands were shaking. The other gate swung open, with sword in hand Donny braced himself. He knew where he was and by the looks of it he knew what he was fighting. Out walked a man of pure white, freezing temperatures of Mount Senri radiated off of him which mean only one thing. This man was an Icelottit!
Not only was he an icelottit but he needed no introduction, he was a famous criminal. A man so feared by Colden's people that after he was arrested they issued a country wide m******e of the entire Icelottit race. I knew was sentenced to death but I didn't think this is how they would try to execute him!
Kaljo, the sound of his name was bitter in my mouth. He immediately made a sword of ice. He didn't need a weapon he was a weapon. The hatred I felt for this man went without saying and suddenly I found myself shouting at them.
"KICK HIS ASS DONNY!!!!!!"
They clashed swords. Kaljo's ice spreading to Donny's sword, covering the blade, stealing his strength. Donny pushed Kaljo back with everything he had till his blade broke and Kaljo's ice sword sliced into Donny's shoulder. He cried out in pain, I fell to my knees. My cloaks hood fell with me. Donny's eyes met mine. Is this where he dies? Will I really never see him again? NO! I can't do this! I can't just sit here and watch another person I care about die in front of me! But what could I do? How can I stop this?
As if hearing my thoughts, he smirked at me and suddenly relief washed over me and I wasn't afraid anymore. Kaljo fell to the ground, his ice sword shattered. His body lifeless. Blood, there was so much blood. It was everywhere, and Donny, sweet, sweet Donny, his left hand was covered in it. The crowd erupted, chanting a name I never thought I'd hear so soon. The name of their champion, barron Kelfhad's, Sano's father's champion, SKULLCRUSHER!
I think I'm going to be sick. It all made sense. The more I thought about it the more the pieces fit. I don't know why I'm such an i***t! Why didn't I see it sooner!?!?!?!?! He walked this way, toward my gate. The blood, Kaljo's blood still dripping from his hand. He was getting closer and closer to me, I wanted to run but my legs wouldn't move, I wanted to scream but no sounds would come out. His smile, the smile I grew to love, was twisted. It was evil, he was evil. I sat there as he slowly approached me. I couldn't look at him, and I think he knew that. He crouched down next to me his twisted smile still staining his beautiful face. With his left hand he moved my hair behind my ear, leaving Kaljo's blood on my cheek. He leaned in close, I could feel his breath on my neck, he whispered to me.
"Did you really believe that when we first met that I didn't already know who you were little miss ninja? Hmmm Guess my acting wasn't so bad after all."
He was laughing at me. His laughter faded as he walked away and the tears that I had been holding back all this time started to fall. I wiped the tears from my face, lifted myself to my feet, steadied my breath and walked toward my gate. I didn't grab a weapon this time, I didn't need one. I am going to prove to him that I AM NOT WEAK!
I walked out into the ring, dropped my cloak to the ground, the crowd was silent. Only whispers filled the air. The gate opposite of mine opened. A man walked out, you could tell he was of a higher class. As soon as he entered the ring he whistled and three small beasts came running out of the gate. They were about the size of a medium-sized dog. They were dark furs. I couldn't help but smile. It was almost too funny really, this fight is already over. He ordered them to attack. They came close, took one sniff of me and turned to their master and ate him alive. His screams filled the arena. I shouted to the announcer,
" I'll happily take another opponent, this one seems to be broken."
I was told my fight was over. As I left the ring the dark furs followed me, I welcomed their presence, it reminded me of home. No one could come close to me with them around, even the guards kept their distance as they escorted me to my room. When I arrived at my room, there was a box sitting on my bed. I opened it, my hands began to shake as I grabbed my emerald green silk dress out of the box. I immediately threw it back in the box and grabbed the card that fell out.
