Chapter 7 — Cracks in Control Days passed, but nothing became easier, If anything, it became worse. Noah didn’t touch her again — not like before. But somehow, that made everything more intense. Every glance lasted too long. Every silence said too much. “You’re doing this on purpose,” Amara snapped one evening. Noah looked up from his laptop. “Doing what?” “This… tension. You’re creating it.” He closed the laptop slowly and stood. “If I wanted to create tension Amara,” he said, walking toward her, “you wouldn’t be standing there talking.” Her stomach flipped. “You’re reacting to me,” he added calmly. “That’s not true.” “Then prove it.” He stopped in front of her. Close. Too close. His fingers brushed her arm slow yet deliberate. Her breath broke instantly. Noah’s expression didn’t change, but his eyes darkened slightly. “See?” he murmured. Amara clenched her jaw. “I hate that you’re right.” “Good,” he said quietly, his eyes darkened from desire. “That means it matters.” Amara knew he was right, she hated that he was right but also loved how fast he could read her and that scared her more than anything.
