3. THE CONTRACT

Chapter 3 — The Contract The folder felt heavier than it should in Amara’s hands, as though the weight of it carried more than paper — more than ink. It carried consequences. She stared at the bold words printed across the front: Contract Marriage Agreement. Six months. That was all. Six months tied to a man she barely knew — a man whose presence alone made her pulse race in ways she didn’t fully understand. Noah Ramsey watched her closely, his sharp eyes missing nothing. “Do you understand what you’re signing?” he asked, his voice calm, controlled… dangerous. Amara swallowed. “I understand.” But she didn’t. Not fully. He stepped closer, closing the distance between them. The air shifted instantly, thick with something unspoken. “You follow the rules,” Noah continued. “You respect the terms. And you don’t cross boundaries unless I allow it.” Her heart skipped. “And you?” A faint smile touched his lips. “I don’t break my own rules.” He slid the pen toward her. “Sign.” Her fingers trembled slightly as she picked it up. This was it — the moment everything would change. No turning back. No safety net. Taking a steadying breath, she signed her name. Noah’s gaze darkened with something unreadable. “Good,” he said quietly. “You just made a very interesting decision.” Amara’s chest tightened. “Let’s hope I don’t regret it,” she murmured. Noah leaned closer, his voice dropping. “Oh… you will.”
