Chapter 4

We walked past some households. Luckily, the place that we live in contains only a small number of residents so we don’t need to suffer from the many curious stares of a  crowded place.  “Lil Sis, it's so quiet here. It’s so peaceful.” He said as we walked up the mountain. The previous owner of the house is a hunter so he had left quite some tools. Eldest brother brought a bow and arrow.  I suddenly stop to pick some dried branches. I played with it back and forth and suddenly I stopped. “Big Brother, stop”  “Eh? Why” I can see a thick pile of dried leaves “This is a trap. You see these dried leaves” I poked it and some leaves fell and created a tiny hole.  “This is a hunter's pitfall so you need to be wary of your surroundings. Do you see these knots? It was a mark for the other” He nodded and walked sideways to continue. “We can also place a trap—DAGE! HERE HERE!” I immediately shout as I rush towards a bunch of grass. Is this real? OMYGHAD! I didn’t know that such herbs exist here. Maybe because of the pollution in the modern world that I cannot grow this kind of herb. “Eh? What is that?” “Elder Brother, this herb is called ‘Dayap’. I spun around it and shrieked hysterically “It was a wonderful and rare herb. It can cure high blood pressure and control cholesterol…” I mumble as I hug my precious treasure. “Is that wonderful? HAHA You look like a cat” He nuzzles my head “Should we get some and sell them?” His statement poured cold water into my mind. I feel like my whole body crumbled. It was a rare herb in the modern world but here in this era maybe none of them will recognize it. I may be an expert doctor in the modern world however there is still a disparity of knowledge in this era. I still need to learn what the difference in pharmacological knowledge there is.  “Aya! Forget about it, we should gather a few and continue on our way” We continued walking and on our way up. I had gathered quite a handful of wild mushrooms and wild plants. “Eldest Brother we should dig here and place a trap”  “Okay, Elder Brother will start on it based on your instruction” As he dug the soil, I made some calculations and put a bait on it. He did not question me and just started making another trap on the place I had marked. I continue to roam around the area. This is amazing, the natural supplies are abundant and we will never starve as long as I’m resourceful enough. This is a treasure you cannot find in the modern world. “Eldest Brother come here!” I shouted as I walked to the group of cassava plants.  “What is this? These leaves can be eaten?” He asked as he walked through me. “Dage, you should dig through the roots because it is a root crop, only that part can be eaten” “Ow, such a thing exists! But how can the villagers not touch it?” It was evident that this part of the site was not tampered with by human activities. “Maybe the villagers don’t know about it.” I shrugged. At least we made a big harvest this time. I also took some of its stems and tied them with a grass vine. “Eh? What do you need it for?” “Dage we can plant it in our yard and be a fence” He started working and put all the cassava in the basket. He only stopped when he felt that it was almost full. We had just started walking when I saw two wild pigeons lying across the tree. “Ge, there's a bird!” He nodded and put down his things. We lift the arrow and momentarily close his eyes. After a deep breath, he released the arrow. Immediately, the first one in the right was struck by the arrow but because of the sudden movement, the second one was only injured and managed to fly slowly. However, how can I let such a ‘golden’ chance to get away, HMP, you just blame your bad luck because you meet me. So right away, I gather my strength and throw a piece of rock towards it.  “Woah! You are a really great Meimei” Dage smiled at me approvingly. We managed to find the two and brought them back.  “Ge let's go. Your basket is already heavy so just leave me with these two”  “Alright” We walk quite slowly and before we manage to go down I see another plant called “Cincau Hijau.” I giggled and the Elder Brother questioned me with his look. I left him and plucked the whole plant. “HEHE! Dage I have a surprise for you” I hummed a tune as we walked. Elder Brother only shakes his head and looks at me with a pampering gaze. “You-Ah! Look at your toothy grin. You look like a rat that finally made its way through the cookie jar” He lightly scolded but his tone betrayed him as it is full of doting and unwavering affection. “Peh! If I’m a rat then you are also a mouse.” I snarled.  “HMP! Who made you my brother?” I mumbled. “AYA! Our little ancestor, the ancestor of the mouse clan, is angry! HAHA” We continue to tease each other on our way home. Yeah! Home. I finally have a home.
