Chapter 6The first three days of the journey eastbound are thankfully uneventful. The companions have been traveling parallel to the Continental Pass and perpendicular to the Great Southern Road, staying off the main thoroughfare to avoid detection. On the morning of the fourth day, as the sun is rising in front of them, Skenn signals Ashcon and Sapphyre to remain silent and points northeast. Ashcon closes his eyes, and Sapphyre sees a light blue aura emanating briefly through his shirtsleeve on his right arm. He opens his eyes, holds up six fingers, and points to the northwest. Skken heads in that direction. Aschon signals Sapphyre to remain silent and takes her hand, moving briskly east parallel to the road and just south of it. Ashcon spies two trees and a shallow ditch a short distance
