Chapter 6

“Did you bring food? I didn’t have breakfast.” I double checked my things before zipping my travelling bag. I didn’t bring a big suitcase because we probably won’t be staying long in Palawan. I glanced at my cellphone and saw that the call was still on-going. “Harvin?” I called him when he did not speak. “Hmm? Sorry. Yeah. I brought food. Don’t worry.” “Alright. Jeff said he would go with us. He said he is going to meet someone in Coron tomorrow.” I locked my unit after checking everything. I went straight to the elevator and went down to the basement. I found Harvin’s car on the farthest section when I told him to come out for a while to meet me, he immediately hung up. “What time is our flight?” I asked. He enveloped me in a warm and tight hug and I gladly obliged. My head hurts and it feels like it’s going to split. I guess I didn’t get enough sleep because I had to wake up early to pack. “We’ll be using a private chopper. What time did you wake up?” He planted a kiss on my forehead. “Four. I only had three hours of sleep..” “You can rest later. Oh, here’s your brother-in-law.” I immediately turned back and saw Gregory approaching. He was carrying a huge travelling bag and a backpack. “You’re Akira’s future brother-in-law, right? You may go with us.” Gregory seems like he wanted to refuse. He glanced at me first before nodding. “I need to call my fiancé first.” I kept hugging Harvin’s waist because I was still a little dizzy. He speaks from time to time and asks Gregory something so I could feel the vibration of his voice on his chest where I was leaning. Harvin opened the door of the shotgun seat of his car and let me in. “Your sister will arrive in fifteen minutes. You can take a nap, I’ll just wake you up when we get to the helipad. Okay?” I nodded once and dozed off to sleep. My nap hadn’t lasted long before I felt Harvin’s touch on my thigh. I groaned my response before getting out. He carried out stuff. Elena approached me and that was when I also noticed Jeffrey hiding his smirk from me. “Good morning,” she greeted. “You look exhausted.” “Yeah. I had it hard last night. I even think… I kissed someone I should not.” “Silly. It must be Harvin. He was the only one who was with you last night.” I grinned before glancing at Gregory’s way. “I think so.” Elena and Greg walked to the elevator first. Harvin followed while holding my hand. There’s no helipad at the condo so we had to go to Harvin’s. “I should have just booked a flight. I was going to but Harvin texted that he will use their private chopper,” Jeff complained next to me. “I didn’t know that the trip to Palawan was already by pair. I wish I could have brought a partner.” "Don't worry, maybe your partner is already in Palawan." After that, I was quiet until I got to the helipad.. Harvin was holding my hand the entire time. I closed my eyes while waiting for the chopper to land. I forgot to put my hair in a bun so the wind was blowing my hair wildly. The shoal I was holding was almost blown away, and fortunately Harvin caught it immediately. I was only wearing a dark denim shorts and a cropped top under my long cardigan, and a pair of flat beach sandals. I felt Jeff smacking my waist lightly. “It’s not yet summer, but here you are flaunting your skin like you’re on a beach..” Whatever. I love wearing crop tops. I have a flat tummy and duh, we’re going to a resort, for Pete’s sake. “So? What do you want me to wear? Pajamas? Eww...” I caught a glimpse of my sister’s outfit. She’s wearing a white blouse and paired it white jeans and white sneakers. I rolled my eyes. Harvin held my hand as I get inside the chopper. I just slept the entire time. Harvin’s hand was resting on my thigh and I just let it there since I was too sleepy to even bother. He just woke me up when we arrived. The sun is already rising. Elena said that Mommy will arrive here with the others later this afternoon. Jeffrey immediately said goodbye to us because he’s going to Coron. He just said he’ll visit me tomorrow after meeting someone. “I’ll book a room for us and we’ll have our breakfast.” I nodded at Harvin. Elena also nodded to Gregory. Seems like he’s also booking a room for them. My sister and I went inside a restaurant near the shore and ordered for our food. I’m so hungry. Harvin offered me food earlier while we were still in the chopper but I was unable to eat because of sleepiness. I was expecting that my sister will slap me this morning. I’m not that drunk to not remember what I did last night. I kissed Gregory, my sister’s fiancé. I know that he did not kiss me back, but the fact that he hid it from Elena, made me think about something. Maybe… I should have kissed him some more. I giggled at my thoughts. Elena glanced at me. “Why?” she asked. I smiled as I shook my head. “I just remembered something…” “Looks like Harvin was the only one who stayed long out of your boyfriends, huh.” She smiled at me. We both have a view of the sea. “He’s the only one who can withstand my behavior.” Which is very true. Harvin is very understanding and romantic. I don’t need romance but Harvin is persistent in courting, even before. “It was because you’re picky. I thought you were going to answer Lawrence. He’s a catch, Akira. An engineer!” I don’t mind dating an engineer, it’s just that… I’m more interested in Architects, as of the moment. Just like… “Gregory!” my sister called her fiancé. He sat next to her so we were facing each other. It wasn’t long before Harvin followed and we started eating. “Mom texted earlier. She told me they can’t come.” I saw this coming. I tried to look sad because of what I heard. “Did she tell why?” “She said Grandma was dizzy. Her private nurse advised her to rest first.” I got alarmed. Grandma is old. She can no longer handle the long distance travel especially since she is not used to it. She gets dizzy quickly. “How was she? Maybe we can just video call later?” I suggested. She agreed before looking at Gregory, who’s peeling the shrimp for her. “Then I guess, we can just enjoy this vacation with ourselves. Double date?” Harvin joked. He was the one peeling the shrimp and putting them on my plate. “It seems like it. We could invite Jeff here tomorrow. He’s in Coron, right now. I think he’s meeting his boyfriend there.” “Jeff has a boyfriend? Wow.” It was Elena. “Yup… I thought he has no plans. I thought we promised that we’ll stay single for the meantime..” I chuckled Gregory was so silent. He was using his right hand to put shrimp on my sister’s plate. It looks like he’s done eating because he’s just leaning back on his seat and resting his left arm on the back of my sister’s chair. “Then what do you call this? What about us?” Harvin gestured the space between us. I know that he’s just teasing me. “Friends. Friends with benefits..” I softly chuckled. I looked up at Elena’s boyfriend again and saw that he also glanced at me. He quickly glanced at Harvin but my sister asked for water. It was right in front of her and she could reach it when she stretched out his arm. “You can just grab the pitcher, Elena. Your boyfriend is busy..” I teased. “Sorry, I can’t help it. I feel like I’m a queen when he serves me like this.” She even smiled sweetly at Gregory and the latter just quietly smiled back. I snorted and glanced at Harvin. I just wanted to avoid the sweetness of the two in front of me but I received a drop of a kiss from Harvin. “Want me to do the same thing?” he teased more. He knows how I hate those things. Too corny. “No, thank you.” He threw a bark of laughter. “I heard your wedding got postponed.” “Uhh, yeah..” Elena answered Harvin. I watched Gregory’s reaction. He’s just sitting quietly and didn’t seem to have any intention of speaking. I licked my lips and shifted on my seat. “That’s so disappointing. I was looking forward to catching your bouquet of flowers…” “You wanna get married already?” Her eyes widened. “I thought you had no plans…” “Really, babe?” Harvin gave his full attention to me. “Who wouldn’t? Of course, I also want to experience the most sacred ceremony. The problem is… I think my groom is not available yet.” My stare lingered at Gregory who was now also looking at me. He clenched his jaw and looked away. He even held my sister’s hand and placed it on the table. “I’m always ready, babe. Just tell me whenever you’re ready..” Harvin kissed my cheek but I was staring at Gregory the whole time. Elena didn’t notice our gaze because she was looking outside. “Let’s get inside,” Gregory whispered to my sister. Her face immediately turned red so I couldn’t help but roll my eyes. “O-Okay...” She stood up. “We’ll just… sleep.” Sleep, my a*s. “Oh, sure. We’re also thinking about taking a nap. Right, Aki?” I just nodded at Harvin because I wasn’t in the mood to walk around. He was holding my hand and since we were the first to walk, I couldn’t see Elena following us. I didn’t even try to turn around because it might ruin my day. Harvin booked a single room for the both of us. It was right beside my sister’s room. Good thing there’s two beds inside our room. I had no plans to sleep because I had my nap earlier. I just unpacked my clothes and since Harvin looked sleepy, I was the one who unpacked his clothes. When lunch came I didn’t go out. This one with me, on the other hand, slept soundly. He also seems very sleepy because of what happened last night. Elena knocked and asked us to eat but I was still full. I also didn’t wake up Harvin so he could eat with me later. I took a shower after and chose a crisp white sundress that is flowy enough for the island breeze, and flat beach sandals. Under my dress is my red bikini just in case I wanted to take a dip. I also applied sunblock and did not wear make up because it makes my face feel lighter. I wore a fedora hat because I planned to walk along the beach. It’s already four in the afternoon. “Hey, Aki…” Elena spoke behind me. “We’re going out for island hopping. Let’s go! Invite Harvin.” She excitedly pulled Greg with him. My sister is in her pink blouse and denim shorts while her boyfriend is wearing a plain white shirt and board shorts. “Sure…” I went back inside and woke Harvin. He was confused but still managed to pull himself out of the bed. I gave him time to prepare since he just woke up before going outside. I almost cursed when I forgot to bring sunglasses with me. I’m too lazy to go back and I haven’t brought my phone yet. “Hon, I forgot to bring your camera. I’ll go back inside and get it.” “Okay, I’ll wait for you.” He kissed her cheek. She ran back inside to get her camera. I was actually planning to go back earlier but when opportunity strikes, you should grab it immediately. The wind was blowing harshly so I had to hold it. I also adjusted the strap of my dress before following Gregory. There are resort-owned boats that can be used to go to the islands when requested by guests. I saw Gregory approaching an old man while checking the condition of a boat. “Gregory, it’s nice to see you again! I just saw you here again, huh? It’s been a while since the last one. I think you were still in first year college then.” I heard this greeting. “Nice to see you again, Uncle Psalm…” he chuckled. “How have you been?” “Still like before. I heard from Paul that you’re in need of a boat..” The old man glance at me. I was standing approximately five meters away from them. “Nothing really stops you from working…” Gregory joked which made the old man chuckle. “The ox would be ashamed if he sees me stronger than him,” he joked. He was chuckling when he glanced at me once mode. “Is this your girlfriend?” I raised a brow and took few more steps closer to them. I saw Greg turned around to check who was the old man referring to. He shook his head before turning his attention back to the old man. “She’s not…” I heard him answer using his baritone. “Future girlfriend, I guess?” I intervened. I stopped right beside Gregory. I smiled at the old man and his smile widened at me, the kind of smile that makes me want to chat with him more. “We look good together, right?” “You would make a good couple. If you’re free, I might be able to set you up with my eldest—Paul. But it seems like it’s not the case…” he laughed and scratched the back of his neck. “You stay here first and I’ll call someone to get the boat ready.” The old man did not waste another second and immediately excused himself. I watched him leave and even checked the hotel to see if Elena was coming. “So, how’s your sleep, hon?” I teased, using the same corny endearment my sister used to call him a while ago. “I didn’t know you love sleeping in broad daylight..” I teased. “I was used to do… it… at night but well, if you really can’t hold it anymore… I understand that it’s fine to do it at morning, noon… afternoon… any time of the day, I guess? I would love to try it…” My lips stretched for a sweet smile. I’m sure he knows I’m not pertaining to sleeping anymore. The way his jaw clenched in a successful and aggressive manner affirmed my hunches. He's affected. And he’s just letting me. Damn. Five more minutes, Elena. “Wanna do something fun? With me?” I whispered.
