CHAPTER TWO
Henry stopped in his steps and turned to face his daughter.
"What did you say?", he asked her slowly.
Delilah drew in a shaky breath and looked at him.
"I said.... I'm pregnant", she repeated what she had said but quietly this time.
Iyra stood stunned. It was like a bomb had gone off in her head. There was a deafening ringing in her ears. Delilah was pregnant. If Delilah was pregnant that could only mean one thing, Elliott was most probably the father. Delilah was carrying Elliott's child?
"You are lying", Iyra found herself saying.
Everyone in the room turned to look at her.
"You are lying!", Iyra repeated.
"There is no way you are carrying Elliott's child, there's no way..... You are lying!", Iyra shouted.
There was a slight smirk on Delilah 's face as she looked at Iyra but it was only for a few seconds. She quickly changed her expression and looked at her father with pleading eyes.
"It's true, I am pregnant. And Elliott is the father. I had gone to his place to tell him the news when Iyra....", Delilah explained softly.
"You are lying! You are lying!", Iyra screamed and began to walk towards her sister.
"Say the truth, tell them the truth", Iyra shouted as she made to grab Delilah but her father stopped her just in time.
"Iyra, stop it!", he shouted and that seemed to get through to her as she stopped.
Henrylooked at Delilah with a serious expression.
"Are you telling the truth?", he asked her.
"Are you really pregnant? And Elliott is the father?", he asked slowly yet seriously.
Delilah nodded feebly.
"Yes, father it's true"
Iyra let out a sob and Henrybreathed out a deep sigh.
Selma quickly took her daughter into her arms and began to comfort her.
"Darling, if Delilah is truly pregnant then she cannot marry the prince", Selma said softly in a careful manner.
Iyra, who was sobbing, immediately stopped sobbing and lifted her head to look at her father. Henrylooked away to avoid her eyes. He had thought about this as well and it was also the reason why he was inclined to think that Delilah was lying. But what if Delilah wasn't lying? Would he have to send Iyra to marry the prince? But what if Iyra proved stubborn and even ran away? Wouldn't that mean the deaths of his family?
"Papa....", Iyra called out.
Henrymustered all the courage in him and looked his daughter in the eye. He noticed her red and puffy eyes and how she looked at him hopefully, it broke his heart.
"Tomorrow, you will go for a test to see if you are truly pregnant", Henrytold Delilah .
"What?!", Delilah shouted.
"Why? Do you have a problem? Didn't you say you are pregnant?", Henryasked her, eyeing her squarely.
Delilah was intimidated by his gaze.
"Ye.. Yes papa", Delilah nodded.
"Good then there should be no problem. Tomorrow you will go for the test", Henrysaid and turned around to leave the room.
"And if she is indeed pregnant?", Selma asked after him as he walked away.
Henrystopped in his tracks. Iyra stared at her father intensely.
Henrydidn't answer and just continued walking. Iyra gasped for breath. Delilah on the other hand, had a smile on her face as she watched her sister struggle.
★The Next Day★
Delilah and her mother went for the test and came back with the result from the doctor. Truly, Delilah was pregnant. It felt like Iyra' world had broken all over again. She didn't know why but learning that Delilah was carrying Elliott's child seemed to make the pain of the betrayal sting a lot more. She went up to her room and locked herself in.
She laid on her bed in deep thought. With Delilah being pregnant, Iyra knew what it meant for her, she would have to marry the alpha prince.
Just then there was a knock on her door.
"Iyra, it's me. Open the door please", it was her father.
Iyra got down from her bed and opened the door.
"How are you doing?", Henryasked as he walked in.
"I'm fine, papa", Iyra answered.
Henrylooked at his daughter and sighed. She was obviously not fine and it broke his heart to have to ask this of her but he had no other choice, if he didn't it would mean all of their deaths.
"Iyra, I want to talk to you about something", Henrysaid.
Iyra drew in a sharp breath, she knew what was coming.
Henrydrew in a sharp breath, it broke his heart to do this and he was truly embarrassed of himself. He knew Iyra felt like he favoured Delilah and her mother more than her. And that may be true, since her mother died, Henryfound it hard to look at Iyra because she reminded him of her mother. Deciding to send Delilah to marry the alpha prince was probably the only thing he could have done in her favor, but who would have thought Delilah would actually be pregnant? He felt embarrassed to ask this of Iyra but he knew if he didn't comply with the alpha king's order, that would mean the deaths of his family.
"My dear, I am so sorry but with your sister being pregnant, you will have to marry the alpha prince in her stead", Henrytold her.
Iyra exhaled slowly and nodded.
"I understand papa. It's fine", Iyra told him.
"I am so sorry", Henryapologized.
"It's fine papa. I'm fine", Iyra reassured him.
Henrystared at her and took her in his arms. Wrapped in her father's arms, Iyra couldn't hold it any longer, she began to cry. She cried her eyes out while her father comforted her.
★At the palace★
"Ah, Kiaan you are here", the king, Edmund said as Kiaan the prince was wheeled into the throne room.
"Yes, your majesty. I was told you wanted to see me?", Kiaan asked him.
"Yes, yes. I just wanted to inform you that your bride will be arriving tomorrow", the king told him.
"My bride?", Kiaan asked.
"Yes, your bride", the king nodded.
"I believe I said I'm not quite ready to be married yet", Kiaan said.
"And why is that?", the king asked him.
"You are the prince, you should get married as soon as possible", he added.
"I know your majesty but look at me, I don't want to put a young maiden who would no doubt have better prospects through the stress of having to take care of me", Kiaan said softly.
Kiaan hadn't always been a cripple. When he was 7, he and his parents had gotten into an accident that had killed his parents on the spot and then rendered him a cripple.
"Nonsense! You are the prince. What better prospect could there be than you?", the king asked.
"But...", Kiaan tried to protest but the king stopped him.
"No buts! Your bride is arriving tomorrow and that's final", the king said in an authoritative tone.
Kiaan didn't say anything else but the king took his silence for consent.
As his helper wheeled him back to his room, Kiaan smiled at all of the staff as they greeted him. Kiaan knew that they all pitied him.
When they got to his room, he had his helper close the windows and draw the blinds saying he wanted to take a quick nap. When the helper was done, Kiaan dismissed him.
As the last of his helper's footsteps echoed through the hall, Kiaan's aura suddenly changed. His e
xpression was cold and his eyes, deep and calculating. Kiaan slowly stood up from the wheelchair and stretched.
"What a day", he said and smirked.
