CHAPTER THREE
Kiaan poured himself a glass of wine from the table in the room and took a sip. He twirled the cup in his hand and swirled the wine around in his mouth, his eyes closed, his expression far off. If anyone walked in now and saw this man with such an intense aura, they definitely wouldn't be able to reconcile him with the charming and helpless prince they usually saw.
Kiaan dropped the glass on the table and began to stretch once more. His muscles felt especially stiff today, he had spent such a long time on the wheelchair. His mind went back to the conversation he just had with his uncle, the alpha. His uncle was really bent on making sure he got married and to one of his people no doubt. Kiaan was sure this marriage was his uncle's way of putting one more leash on him. If he was married to someone from his uncle's supporter families, it would certainly limit his freedom and ability to carry out his plans. He had been worried about it since the first time his uncle had brought it up and had since been looking for ways to avoid the marriage but they all proved abortive. Now his so called wife to be was arriving tomorrow, he was running out of time and options.
Knock knock
The sound of someone knocking on the door startled Kiaan out of his thoughts. He had been so immersed in his thoughts that he had not heard the footsteps approaching.
"My prince", a maid called from outside.
"Sorry to disturb you my prince but you have an appointment with some acquaintances of the alpha"
"Come in"
The maid walked in and saw the prince sitting on the wheelchair. The room was dark but the eeriness was no longer there. The maid approached Kiaan.
"Sorry for the disturbance my prince but the alpha insists upon your presence", the maid said with a bow.
"It's alright", Kiaan nodded with a smile, all trace of the frightening aura from earlier gone.
The maid nodded and began to push Kiaan who had changed from the frightening man earlier to the helpless and useless alpha prince once again.
The breakfast table was quiet. Iyra toyed around with her food, a blank expression on her face, her eyes were still red and puffy from all the crying. Her father ate his food in silence as well. The only people who seemed to be in a good mood where Delilah and her mother. As they ate their breakfast heartily and with a joy.
"Delilah dear, can you pass me the salt?", Selma asked cheerily.
"Sure, mother. Here you go", Delilah replied with the same chirpy tone.
"The food is really good today", she commented happily.
"Don't you think so, dad?"
"Hm", Henryhummed in reply without looking at her but that didn't down her mood.
"That's right! Dad, Elliott said he'll be coming over today, to see you", informed him.
Iyra paused.
"Hm, ok", Henryanswered blankly.
"Delilah dear, have some butterpeas", Selma offered the plate to her.
"Thanks mother", Delilah thanked as she reached for the plate but then she suddenly made a face like she wanted to gag.
"What's wrong?", Selma asked worriedly.
"I don't know, I just feel like I want to throw up", Delilah answered.
"Oh? Is it the butterpeas? But you love butterpeas", Selma said.
"I do but it just makes me feel sick right now", Delilah said as she gave the plate back to Selma.
"Mom, you know what? Elliott actually doesn't like butterpeas. Do you think the baby would be like that too? Take after his dad? Maybe that's why I'm feeling sick", Delilah asked in a cheery tone.
"Maybe", Selma replied with a large smile.
Iyra dropped a fork with a loud clink and pushed her chair back. She stood up and left the dining table without a word. Delilah watched Iyra go with a smirk.
Iyra stared at her reflection in the mirror, her eyes were puffy and she had dark circles. Her maid, Linda who was helping her prepare began to apply make up on Iyra. The car from the palace would soon arrive. After a few minutes, Linda was done and Iyra looked at her reflection again. She was stunned by what she saw. Linda had applied the makeup expertly that she had concealed her dark circles and puffiness.
Knock knock
"Miss, the car from the palace has arrived", their footman informed Iyra.
Iyra took a deep breath and stood up. She gave herself a once over in the mirror and was extremely satisfied with how she looked.
She walked downstairs and found her step mother and Delilah . Her father was nowhere in sight.
Iyra wasn't sure if his absence was because he was truly too embarrassed to send her off or if it was because he never really cared about her. When it came to her father, Iyra was always second guessing herself and his love for her.
"Have a safe trip, Iyra dear", Selma said as she reached out and hugged her.
Iyra didn't say anything. She glanced at Delilah who was smirking at her. She turned around and left the house.
As she approached the gate, she noticed a familiar figure coming into the compound. It was Elliott. Elliott paused when he noticed Iyra. The two stared at each other for a few minutes then Elliott began to walk forward with an awkward expression. When Elliott neared where she was, he looked like he wanted to say something but Iyra continued on walking and didn't spare him a glance. She had no need to hear his explanation or his apologies, the deed had already been done.
She walked straight to the car that was parked outside the gate. Before getting on the car however, Iyra turned around to take one last look and saw her father and Delilah welcoming Elliott. Delilah had a wide smile on her face. The sight caused a pain in Iyra chest.
She turned around and entered the car. The car began to move, further and further away from her house until it was nothing more than a small figure in the background.
All through the ride to the palace, Iyra was incredibly nervous and anxious. She would be living in the palace, she would be mated to the alpha prince. Iyra wondered what the alpha prince looked like, it was no secret that it was a cripple, everybody knew. But there were some rumors that not only was a cripple but he was also extremely hideous, a monster. Iyra was scared and nervous the entire journey. Soon they arrived at the palace.
"Welcome, my lady", a middle aged man greeted Iyra with a bow as she stepped out of the carriage.
"My name is James, I am the chief of staff of the palace", the man introduced himself.
"I'll take you to the alpha, he has been waiting for your arrival", James told her and Iyra nodded.
James led Iyra into the palace. Iyra was completely stunned by how large and beautiful the palace was. James led her through beautifully decorated hallways with large chandeliers. As they walked, all the maids they came across bowed on seeing them. Soon they came to a stop in front of a large door. The butler opened the door and led Iyra inside. The room was huge with exquisite and extravagant decorations. There was a large podium and a throne at the end of the room. James led her towards the podium where the alpha sat on his throne.
"My alpha, the prince intended bride has arrived", James announced when they reached the podium.
"My alpha", Iyra bowed.
"Ah, good good. You are welcome. I trust you had a good trip?", the alpha greeted her with a smile.
"Yes, my alpha", Iyra answered nervously.
"Good. James, go get Prince Kiaan", the alpha ordered. James bowed before leaving.
"What is your name, my dear?"
"Iyra, my alpha"
Shortly
, Iyra heard the sound of the door opening. She turned around nervously and she almost couldn't contain her gasp
