Two worlds apart

Ace POV Meeting Rosa was one of the most euphoric emotions ever. I never felt as though in seventh heaven because of a person. Though it has just been two weeks since I last saw her, learning that she is not in town puts me in the blue funk that I will never get a glimpse of her again. I roll around my bed throwing a tennis ball back and forth my wall. I recall how she mentioned being in love with someone else, I couldn’t bear the pain and have locked myself inside for two freaking weeks. I get up and listen to my voice messages hoping she might accidentally want to tell me something while crossing my calendar with a red highlighter, the 15th day without her. “ Hey man, drop by today. I got something for you,” I immediately recognized that voice. Nick is my partner and we have been living in Manassas for two years now as undercover agents but finished our last mission months ago. It is unusual for him to drop such alerts unless it is very important, maybe because he hasn’t seen me for a while. Without wasting time I get dressed and leave to meet up with him, either way, I might use some of his drinks. I enter the club that has extremely loud music to my taste, the dim lights made it almost impossible to recognize anyone. As I find my way to the bartender’s counter, I spot Nick who happens to be flirting with a lady that is extremely blushing at whatever he is telling her. He has his way easier with women here, being the good-looking bartender with balayage blond hair, cool tattoos, and pierced ears, ladies barely ignore him. He turns my way and notices me immediately but puts on a frown while waving at me, he tells the lady something of which I assume he excuses himself and heads my way. “Hey man glad you stopped by…. wait, why do you look like s**t? what’s up with you?”Nick said with a glimpse of worry in his eyes. Nick can guess that it is related to Rosa, but I’m sure he cannot guess what really went down and that she left town two weeks ago. He was my witness when we registered our marriage, so he wouldn’t like the news. “Is it that obvious?” I guess I look miserable “ Can I get a drink man?”. “Sure man, you really look like you can use my entire collection,“ he laughs out loud trying to lighten up the mood knowing that I won’t tell him anything anytime soon. As he puts the glass of Martini on the counter, he looks at me keenly though trying to say something. I know that face, that is when he wants to tell me something I won’t like. “ Just spit it out Nick for f***k sake!” and he just barks out laughing but before I could cut him off, he put back a serious face on and surreptitiously hands me a bottle of wine. “Boss says it is serious and dangerous, but he needs you to do it,“ he explains while in the pretense of wiping some glasses. I look at the wine bottle and understood what I should do next. Soon after finishing a couple of shots, I had to leave, I need to be in my right mind before opening the wine bottle Nick had just given me. Hubert didn’t contact us in a while it must be really important, just what I need to get my mind off the evil woman who just broke my heart. As soon as I got in my apartment I headed straight for a cold shower and put on my sweat pants right before taking a seat. On my desk, I look at the only picture I have of me and Rosa on our wedding day because she never liked taking pictures for God knows why. She looks ineffable with her long blonde hair, her smile, and her beautiful ocean blue eyes that always glittered when she is happy. I can’t believe such a beautiful woman can be so heartless enough to pretend to love me, and let herself fall in love with some guy out there while married to me. While deep in my thoughts I remember the wine bottle Nick gave me, I quickly went for it and opened it. As I poured it in a bowl, a plastic slipped out of the bottle with a paper rolled in it. I opened the plastic and unfold the paper which has 38.70558…-77.53099 written. Searching for the coordinates I knew my next stop is Bristow Manor Golf Club. I’m sure it is something I can handle because I am better off living my double life than sinking in the thought of betrayal that I never anticipated from the woman I loved.
