Stair after stair, the two men dragged me away from the light and into a dark, damp basement. The heavy smell assaulted my senses but I was sure I’d get used to it soon while the world forgot me.
My heart ached thinking about the people I left behind. I knew Ryoko would mourn me, that Flavia and Sim would miss me. I was sure even Astrid would miss our fights. I wished I hadn’t failed them but I had. I failed the world.
