Chapter 1: The Wedding Disaster
The wedding bells rang through the grand ballroom of the Royal Crest Hotel, but to Isabella Hart, they sounded like the beginning of the happiest day of her life.
Crystal chandeliers sparkled overhead. Thousands of white roses decorated the aisle. A string quartet played softly while more than three hundred guests waited with eager smiles.
Everything was perfect.
Everything... except the groom.
Standing at the altar in her breathtaking white gown, Isabella glanced toward the entrance for what felt like the hundredth time.
"Where's Daniel?" she whispered, forcing a smile.
Her maid of honor, Emily, squeezed her hand.
"I'm sure he's just nervous."
The guests began whispering.
Five minutes passed.
Then ten.
The music stopped.
The officiant cleared his throat awkwardly.
A nervous murmur spread across the room.
Isabella's father shifted uncomfortably in his seat, while her mother looked toward the entrance with growing panic.
Suddenly, the ballroom doors burst open.
Relief flooded Isabella's face.
"Daniel..."
But the smile disappeared before it had fully formed.
Daniel wasn't alone.
Walking beside him was Vanessa Cole—Isabella's former best friend.
Vanessa wore a sleek white dress, almost identical to a wedding gown.
She was smiling.
Daniel wasn't.
The ballroom fell into complete silence.
Daniel walked halfway down the aisle before stopping several feet from Isabella.
His eyes never met hers.
"I'm sorry," he said quietly.
Isabella blinked.
"What?"
"I'm calling off the wedding."
For a moment, she couldn't breathe.
The room spun around her.
"What... did you just say?"
Daniel sighed as though this were an inconvenience.
"I don't love you anymore."
A collective gasp swept through the guests.
Vanessa stepped forward confidently and slipped her hand into Daniel's.
"We're together now," she announced without shame.
Isabella stared at them.
"No..."
Vanessa smiled.
"Yes."
Tears gathered in Isabella's eyes.
"You were my best friend."
Vanessa shrugged.
"Things change."
The words struck harder than any slap.
Daniel finally looked at Isabella.
"I should have told you sooner."
"Sooner?" Isabella's voice cracked. "We're standing at the altar!"
"I didn't want to hurt you."
She laughed bitterly.
"You didn't want to hurt me?"
She looked around the ballroom filled with hundreds of guests.
"My family."
"My friends."
"My coworkers."
"Everyone is watching."
Daniel lowered his head.
"I'm sorry."
"No," Isabella whispered.
"You're not."
Vanessa wrapped her arm around Daniel's.
"Let's go."
Without another word...
They turned around.
And walked out together.
The heavy doors slammed shut behind them.
Silence.
Complete silence.
Then the whispers started.
"I can't believe it..."
"How embarrassing."
"Poor girl."
"Did he really leave her?"
"I heard he's been seeing Vanessa for months."
Every whisper pierced Isabella's heart like broken glass.
She stood frozen in her wedding dress.
Unable to move.
Unable to speak.
Unable to cry.
Until her mother rushed forward and hugged her tightly.
"My baby..."
That's when Isabella finally broke.
Tears streamed uncontrollably down her face.
"I wasn't enough..."
Her father clenched his fists.
"I'm going after him."
"No."
Isabella stopped him.
"It's over."
One by one, the guests quietly began leaving.
The expensive decorations...
The untouched wedding cake...
The orchestra...
The flowers...
Everything became a painful reminder of a dream that had died before it ever began.
Less than an hour later, the once-beautiful ballroom was almost empty.
Only Isabella and her family remained.
Her father sat heavily in a chair, looking twenty years older.
Finally, he spoke.
"I've been hiding something from you."
Isabella wiped away her tears.
"What is it?"
He took a shaky breath.
"Our company is bankrupt."
Her heart dropped again.
"What?"
"The wedding was supposed to attract investors. Daniel promised that after the marriage, his family's company would save ours."
Isabella stared at him in disbelief.
"You never told me."
"I wanted to protect you."
Her mother began crying softly.
"If we can't repay the loans within forty-eight hours..."
Her father looked away.
"We'll lose our house."
"Our business."
"Everything."
The crushing weight of those words settled over Isabella.
One day.
That was all it had taken.
She had lost her fiancé...
Her best friend...
And now possibly her family's future.
She closed her eyes.
"What do we do now?"
No one answered.
Because no one knew.
Outside, rain began pouring from the dark evening sky.
Isabella stepped out of the hotel alone, letting the cold rain soak her wedding dress.
She didn't care anymore.
The mascara ran down her face with her tears.
She wandered aimlessly through the city streets, ignoring the curious stares of strangers.
A bride.
Walking alone.
At night.
Without a groom.
Without hope.
She stopped beneath a streetlight and finally allowed herself to sob.
"Why..."
A sleek black Rolls-Royce Phantom slowly pulled up beside the sidewalk.
Its headlights cut through the rain.
The rear passenger door opened.
A tall man stepped out.
His tailored black suit fit him perfectly despite the storm.
His sharp jawline, piercing gray eyes, and commanding presence made everyone nearby instinctively move aside.
He looked at Isabella for several silent seconds.
Then his gaze shifted to her wedding dress.
"You've had a difficult day."
His deep voice was calm.
Controlled.
Almost emotionless.
Isabella wiped her tears.
"Who are you?"
Instead of answering immediately, the man removed his expensive coat and placed it gently over her trembling shoulders.
"My name is Alexander Knight."
The name hit her instantly.
Everyone knew it.
The billionaire CEO.
The youngest business tycoon in the country.
A man so powerful that newspapers called him The King of Wall Street.
But why was he here?
Alexander studied her face carefully.
"I've been looking for you."
Confusion replaced her grief.
"For me?"
"Yes."
He reached into his briefcase.
Pulled out a thick envelope.
And handed it to her.
Inside...
Was a marriage contract.
Isabella's hands trembled as she looked up.
Alexander's expression never changed.
"I need a wife before midnight."
