The SlipGate hurled Harry Carlson through an endless void. Surrounded by a shimmering warp field that looked like a soap bubble, he found himself watching that distant point of light. He had never discovered what that was. It existed within SlipSpace, but it never came any closer no matter how far you travelled. Claire stood beside him with a sullen expression, her eyes fixed dead ahead. He could tell that she was unhappy. “We should have stayed on board the ship,” she said. “They’re going to need us.” A tall man with a bit of a paunch and wings of gray in his short, black hair, Harry frowned.
