33. The Ball

2165 Words

Collin leaves after lunch on Saturday and the servants get me ready for the ball. I zone out. I wonder if Zeke will even show up for a while. Then I wonder how fast he'll run away after he figures out I have a lot of issues. I'll have to pretend to be normal. Evie can do it. It's not like I have to dance. And I already told him I wanted to leave as soon as possible. We're only making an appearance and having dinner. Maybe he won't notice anything is weird. Maybe he won't notice I'm messed up. "You are beautiful." I can't help but smile. "You're here." "I'm here, sweetheart." He winks. "Or should I say my queen?" "My king." I try to jump at him. "Not done. Don't move." "Sorry." "We're used to it." He's done up as a king for me. Black pants with a red coat. It matches my red gown.
