Chapter 3

1005 Words
Donte was eventually murder, they say he was randomly shot, but what black man isn't "randomly" shot, but nobody spoke about it. He probably could have prevented his own death if he wasn't so sloppy with his business. People knew what he did, they knew he had money, he walked around unprotected, so why not rob him. The fact that he had connections with politicians blew my mind. And the fact that he wasn't selling majority to them also blew my mind. I mean come on it's the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. I'm not talking 20 dollars here and there. I'm talking hundreds, thousands in a day. Of course, Donte didn't have anybody to take his place. So I did what any kid would do. Got ahold of his black book and started my own 40/40 chain. I mean why not.  I got a hold of Donte's whole stash of drugs, and money that was left over, if nobody else was going to step up then I would. I divided it up, distributed it out equally and had everyone carrying their own weight. The way I operated was the complete opposite of Donte. He was literally the blueprint of what not to do. I had my group of trusted brothers. Steelo, Goofy mutha fucka, known him for sixteen years. Ryan, got an eye for movies anything that required him to film some s**t and put a story to it, he was all over it. Chad, The only College Graduate out of us. He could rattle off answers to math problems that you would need a calculator for. If he could glue his degrees to his forehead he would. And then there's Terrance, if you showed up with two women, he showed up with three. It was like Oceans Eleven, The Black Entourage. Blood never decided if you were my family, loyalty did. and these were my brothers. I'd kill for any of them.  I realized after selling all the drugs that the product Donte had wasn't that great after all. This product was definitely a reflection of Donte but by no means a reflection of me. I had to start from the ground up. I kept his in town connections then made use of every Spanish name I ran across. I had a California connection, a New York connection and even out the country connection. You create a product that's so good your customers won't want to go anywhere else for it. Matter of fact, they beg you for it! And that's exactly what I did. Now I can sit here and get into the science of Cocaine, also known as benzoylmethylecgonine. Effects begin within seconds to minutes and last between five and 90 minutes. Not very long for a product that costs so much, but that was the beauty of it. That's why the politicians could use it because the high is so fulfilling but didn't last long and after they came down they could go about their business uninterrupted without people judging them and looking at them crazy. After Weed, cocaine is the most illegally used drug globally. Between 14 and 21 million people use the drug each year. This was a landmine that was begging to be stepped on. But not just anybody could step on it. You had to know when, where, and how to step on it. I knew when to sell, I knew where to sell, and I knew who to sell to. I knew that the purest form of cocaine would be out of the country. Sure it would be more expensive, take more time, but it would be more addictive and would set me apart from everyone, and that was all that mattered. By selling to businessmen and politicians I'd make all that money back, plus some. This is why I tell you I'm not just a "Gangster" some thug from the hood out here peddling a mixture of households cleaners. I'm a businessman, and this, this was a business.  "Wait a minute... You want to physically go to Peru... Out of the country and get the s**t yourself!?" Ryan looked at me like I had lost my mind, and maybe I did. But I had the money to create an even stronger and better product and I was determined to do so. "Yes! Come on, we got the funds! All that money left over from Donte's work, the connect, the customers waiting to give us more money! And the product just sitting there waiting for us to use it." I argued back. My brothers were comfortable with what we had going on, but I wasn't, and after explaining my plan out loud they too became uncomfortable. Ryan shook his head a pinched the brim of his nose with his index and thumb finger.  "Who the f**k you even know in Peru!?" Ryan frowned at me, like me not knowing someone was going to stop me from getting money.  "It's not who I know in Peru, it's who I know here, who knows someone in Peru! Connections Ryan, connections!"  "This is f*****g crazy bruh, you know that right!?"  I smiled at Ryan completely agreeing with him. "All the more reason to do it, right!"  See, the problem with Ryan was he wasn't willing to take risks, you have to be willing to take risks, especially in this business, you don't take risks then your business becomes stagnant, you get comfortable, you get lazy and before you know it you're laying face down on the pavement with a bullet in your back, as a bunch of young kids take over your profit and turn it into a billion dollar company, something that you could of done but you were too lazy selling to your local neighborhood fiends and a politician every once and a while. Me, I flipped it. I only sold to the politicians and sold to the local dope fiends here and there. I thought bigger and better. I moved smarter.
