After the examination, the doctor said Mia only had a superficial injury, but he recommended that she stay in the hospital overnight for observation.

I held my daughter on the hospital bed and tossed and turned all night.

My mind was filled with Ethan and Lena's disgusting faces.

When morning sunlight filtered through the curtains, the ward door was gently pushed open.

"Claire..."

Ethan stood at the door holding a flower basket, his familiar gentle smile on his face.

"I brought your favorite lilies."

Instinctively, I shielded my sleeping daughter and looked at him coldly.

He stood awkwardly by the bed and placed the flower basket on the bedside table.

"How's Mia? I was so worried last night I couldn't sleep."

"Get out," I said in a low voice. "Don't come here and put on an act."

The smile on Ethan's face froze.

He looked at the sleeping Mia, then suddenly knelt on one knee beside the bed.

"Claire, I know you're angry, but you have to believe me. The people I love most have always been you and Mia."

I almost laughed.

This man had helped Lena rob my home yesterday, and now he had the nerve to say this?

"Say what you gotta say." I picked up Mia, who had been woken by the noise. "Drop your act here."

Ethan stood up awkwardly and rubbed his hands.

"Well, Lena..."

"I knew it." I sneered. "It's about your precious sister-in-law again."

"She's pregnant," Ethan suddenly said, but he didn't dare look at me. "Two months."

I froze.

How could Lena be pregnant?

The whole family knew Evan had been crippled from the waist down after being beaten by debt collectors.

He had lost the ability to have children long ago.

I stared at Ethan in disbelief, and nausea rolled in my stomach.

Only then did I realize this cheating pair had hooked up much earlier than I had imagined.

"So?" I suppressed the fury in my chest.

Ethan suddenly grabbed my hand.

"Claire, you know Evan's apartment was mortgaged long ago. Lena is pregnant now. We can't let her live in a rental, can we?"

I finally understood why he had come.

"You want me to give my house to Lena?"
