"Wh–"
Just as Ivan was about to question, Lucien interrupted.
"Lady Dorothy," Lucien kneels before her, grabbing both of her arms. "Please, stand up." Her voice uttered in a most delicate and innocent tone. She pulls her up and Dorothy as well stood up a little surprised.
"A lovely maiden like you doesn't suit when they are kneeling and crying." Lucien took out her handkerchief and gently wipes the tears drenching her cheeks.
"It's almost like you are begging me to kill you in an instant." Her tone suddenly changed to low and chill including her gaze which turned dark. It nearly flinched Dorothy who stared at her with wide eyes.
"Since you keep on asking me for tea," Lucien continued, passing her handkerchief to Rosetta. Her expression suddenly changes into a delightful and delicate voice. "Why don't we have lunch together instead of tea. Somehow, hearing the word tea every day is making me feel nauseous." She adjusted her hair, carefully tugging it behind her ears.
"When I made you clear that I don't prefer tea in the dusk, you don't seem to understand. It seems as though you've developed a feeling for me."
Dorothy flinches again, taking her feet a few steps back. "I-I am... Not."
Everyone gasp whoever has heard. Some clamped their mouth while some were blushing. Yana was as well surprised. So does Ivan.
"Alright...alright..." Lucien smiles putting her hand down. "This is a free world and we choose who to love not the society."
"N-no... It's not like that." Dorothy couldn't believe what was happening. This wasn't what she had planned.
"It's alright and, I don't despise you when you asked me that day. You are a lovely maiden and I'm sure one day, you'll find someone who would love you with all your flaws." Lucien was able to grab hold of the situation, turning the tide her way. "Well then, Lady Dorothy, have a pleasant day." Lucien greets with a bow and walks into the Library.
Ajex who was in the garden suddenly got interrupted when a commotion began to occur. He notices Dorothy kneeling on the floor and Lucien standing still. When he quickly made his way, things turn different and, he wasn't needed anymore. He was as surprised as others when he heard what Lucien was speaking about.
. . .
"So, the reason why Lady Dorothy was in this state was that she got rejected?"
"Oh my! I feel sorry for her."
"Getting over rejection isn't easy. No wonder, she had fallen hard on her."
"However, shouldn't she be confessing when there was no one around?"
"Maybe she wanted to prove her love."
"SILENCE," Yana yelled in a loud voice. "Keep your mouth shut and move your hands faster. This isn't a stage play." Everyone went quiet and quickly continued their work where they left off.
"My lady," Yana calmly called when Dorothy hasn't made any movement.
"Let's go Yana," however she responded with a tone full of rage, and both left her chamber.
.
.
.
As soon as Lucien was away from the eye of the crowd, her gaze dimmed. "Rosetta, throw that handkerchief away."
"Right away, my lady," Rosetta obediently followed with a bow and excused to discard the cloth.
Lucien has made her way to her usual spot with her head slightly throbbing. She didn't think Dorothy was bold enough to do that in front of everyone. She gambled her luck but things didn't go on Dorothy's way. Lucien felt she was in luck that she was able to use her excuses to let Dorothy stop intruding on her way for now.
'I guess, she didn't expect the villainess to act in this way. If it was her, maybe, she would have kicked her or abused her more, or maybe, just ignore her. If that happens... *sigh* Either Ajex or Ivan would come to save her.'
Lucien was glad that Ivan didn't ask her any questions when she was on her way in. He simply stood aside to make her pass.
'Life of a Villainess isn't easy.'
She made her way to the bookshelf. This time it wasn't about magic but about the various Empire that still exists and disappeared. It won't be easy to look for however, she began with a book that contains about this world.
Rosetta finally appeared with tea and snacks. It seems that tea was acceptable in the library if the maid bought it and was careful enough not to spill it. If one does so, he or she will be f*******n to enter the library again.
"Rosetta," Lucien called after an hour of silently reading the book. She was mostly able to grab onto it however, some were partially erased.
"Yes, my lady."
Rosetta sat beside her, reading a book as well.
"I am keen to help you find your brother." Her sentence made Rosetta widen her eyes. Her hand clenched against the book she held. Lucien didn't have that loving gaze but rather it was a gaze that was filled with solemness and enthusiasm.
"My lady, I am deeply gratified for your words however, I've no wealth to expend you." Rosetta was joyful to hear someone willing to help her however, as far as she had come across her journey, neither of them was willing to do it autonomously.
"Of course, I expect a fee in return and I am aware of your situation," Lucien calmly respond, her gaze fixed on the book. "However, if you are willing to cooperate with me, I'll count that as a fee."
Rosetta was in paused for a moment, she hasn't faced Lucien. "W-what do I need to do?" Regardless of that, she questioned. Her brother was the only family and the reason why she still strives to live on.
"To make things clear," she closed the book and stare at her. The library was dead silent even though there was little noise of flipping pages, whispers among the readers who were asking Ivan for books, or someone shoving the book on the shelves. "I don't desire wealth from you." 'I have too much. Father just send me another 4 trunks of gold coins when I only asked for a bag.'
"Nor I require you to sell your body or your soul." Lucien continued as she explains. What she needed the most was neither of these.
"W-what....?" Rosetta was now more bewildered. She expected Lucien to ask for her body or soul in return for sacrifice. As many black magicians were in high demand of a sacrificial body either for their soul or mana. She was as well asked many times however, she decline more like, she escaped. Rosetta's mind began to wander until she concluded.
"My lady, do you need an assistant to assassinate someone?"
"....."
'Is murdering the only thing you could think of?'
"No..no..of course not. How could you speculate on something like that?" 'But of course, there is someone I prefer to be exterminated however, this is not crucial.'
Lucien sighs before she continued. Since she could openly speak whatever she wanted in the library, the spell was not required to eavesdrop here. "What I need for you to do is to find a place for me."
"Huh?" Rosetta only sends a confusing stare.
A place Lucien was looking for was the only place Rosetta knows. In the novel, it wrote that Rosetta found her missing brother and fled when the enemies found they were the last family of the fallen Empire.
A place where no one was able to find even high-level magic. Though it wasn't written what was that place, however, Lucien was sure, it was a perfect place to escape if anything happens to Renee, the female protagonist. She only wanted to escape death. This was the reason why she chose Rosetta to be her maid.
'That's right, that's the only place I could hide for 15-20 years until the plot is finished. And that's the only place Rosetta knows.'
