Make him perfect

Tessa became emotional seeing Billy like that. But she still couldn’t forget how cold and rude he had been to her the night before. How could someone change so suddenly? She wasn’t sure if she could trust him completely yet. Still, she didn’t say anything. She didn’t want another argument. “Billy,” she said quietly, “let go of my leg.” Billy immediately let go and sat up on the bed like an obedient child. Tessa looked at him. “Take me to the kitchen.” “No.” Billy shook his head. “You don’t need to do anything. I’ll make everything. Just wait here. I’ll be back.” Before Tessa could argue, he walked out. A little while later, he returned carrying a large tray. Tessa’s eyes widened slightly. There was toast, butter, jam, fruit juice, pancakes covered in syrup, and eggs arranged neatly on the tray. She looked at everything before suddenly asking, “You didn’t bring Nutella?” Billy raised an eyebrow. “You like it.” Tessa looked at him. “You remembered?” A small smile appeared on Billy’s face. “Of course I did.” He reached over and gently tugged at her cheek. “That’s one of the many reasons I like you, Tess.” Tessa didn’t respond. She simply looked away. She didn’t know what to make of him anymore. A moment ago, he had been so emotional. Now he was acting as if nothing had happened. Billy got up and returned with the Nutella. Then they started eating. For a while, everything was quiet. Suddenly, Billy looked at her. “Tess.” “Hm?” “You have syrup on your face.” Tessa immediately touched her face. “Where?” “There.” She tried to wipe it away. “Is it gone now?” Billy smiled. “No.” Tessa tried again. “Now?” “Still there.” She frowned and tried one more time. Billy watched her struggle for a few seconds before finally getting up. “Give it to me.” He walked over and gently held her chin, turning her face toward him. “I’ll clean it.” Before Tessa could react, Billy leaned closer and licked the small trace of syrup from her lip. Tessa’s eyes widened. She froze. Billy looked at her for a moment before smiling. “The syrup tasted even sweeter from your lips.” He casually returned to his seat and continued eating as if he hadn’t just done anything unusual. Tessa remained completely still. She had no idea how she was supposed to react. After breakfast, Billy took the tray back to the kitchen. A few minutes later, he returned and carefully changed the bandage around Tessa’s injured foot. “How does it feel now, Tess?” Tessa look at him and said, “Better than before.” Billy nodded. He fixed her bed and made sure everything around her was comfortable. “Get some rest. I’ll be back.” Tessa looked at him. “Where are you going?” “I need to go out for a while.” She said nothing. She simply nodded. She didn’t want to start another conversation with him. Tessa lay down on the bed. Billy pulled the blanket over her and gently ran his hand over her hair before standing up. “Tess…” She opened her eyes. “I know my behavior hurt you a lot.” His voice was quieter now. “But trust me. I won’t hurt you again.” Tessa remained silent. “I’ll be back in about an hour.” He gave her one last look before leaving. The entire house became quiet. After some time, Tessa needed to use the bathroom. She slowly got out of bed and stepped into the hallway. But as she passed the living room, something caught her attention. She stopped. Billy’s Ghost Mask was lying on the sofa. There was blood on it. Fresh blood. Tessa’s heart dropped. She stared at the mask. Suddenly, everything became clear. Billy had killed someone last night. And then he had come home to her. A cold fear slowly spread through her body. “What is happening…?” She forced herself to keep walking. When she reached the bathroom, she went to the sink to wash her hands. Then she froze again. There was blood on the sink too. Tessa stared at it. This time, there was no doubt. She quietly returned to her room. She sat on the bed, her mind racing. She didn’t know what to think. She didn’t know what to feel. A short while later, the bedroom door opened. “Tess?” Billy stepped inside. “I’m back.” Tessa didn’t move. She remained exactly where she was. Billy slowly closed the door and walked toward the bed. He lay down beside her, but he didn’t touch her. Tessa immediately recognized that familiar scent. The same scent she had noticed before. Billy spoke softly. “Tess, I’m back. Are you okay?” She said nothing. “Tess?” His voice became softer. “Baby girl, are you okay?” Tessa finally spoke. “Billy…” He waited. “You killed someone again last night, didn’t you?” Silence. Billy didn’t answer immediately. After a few moments, he finally said, “Yes, Tess.” Tessa closed her eyes. “I did.” He took a slow breath. “I know you need time.” His voice was low. “But trust me. I’ll fix everything.” He paused. “Just give me some time, Tess. Please.” Billy placed a hand around her waist. Tessa didn’t move his hand away. But she didn’t turn toward him either. “I can’t completely trust you, Billy.” Her voice was quiet. “You’re not normal.” She swallowed. “You’re a killer.” Billy remained silent for a moment. “I know, Tess.” There was no anger in his voice. “I know I’m not right. I’ve made a lot of mistakes.” He looked at her back. “But I’ll try my best.” “Trust me.” Tessa said nothing. She didn’t even turn around. Billy understood that she didn’t want to talk anymore. So he didn’t pressure her. He slowly got out of bed. “I’ll let you rest.” He walked toward the door. Then he stopped. “Tess, get some sleep. I don’t want to disturb you anymore.” He left the room. Tessa remained on the bed, staring silently into the distance. ⸻ By late afternoon, Tessa woke up. The room was dark and completely quiet. She slowly sat up and looked at her injured foot. It felt much better now. She carefully placed her foot on the floor. It didn’t hurt as much. She stood. “Billy?” No answer. “Billy?” Still nothing. She slowly walked out of the room. When she reached the living room, she stopped. Billy was lying on the sofa. There was no blanket over him. He was curled slightly against the cold, sleeping peacefully. Tessa stood there for a moment. Then she quietly went back to her room and brought a blanket. She walked toward him and gently covered his body. Then she knelt down in front of the sofa. Billy was sleeping so peacefully. He looked almost ordinary. Like a simple man. There was nothing about his sleeping face that suggested he was a killer. Nothing that could make anyone believe he had taken another person’s life. Tessa stared at him. How could the same man who looked this gentle be capable of something so horrible? Her heart tightened. She slowly reached out and moved the strands of hair away from his forehead. She didn’t know why. But suddenly, she felt an overwhelming tenderness toward him. A kind of tenderness she didn’t want to admit. Tessa slowly stood and walked toward the balcony. The sky was painted in shades of pink and purple. Evening was slowly approaching. A cool breeze passed through her hair. The air felt colder than usual. It looked like it might snow later. Tessa looked up at the open sky. She took a deep breath. “God…” She paused. Then whispered, “Please give me something perfect for me…” Her voice became softer. A long silence followed. Then she continued, “Or…” She looked toward the sky again. “Make what you’ve given me perfect.”
